You should rinse out the paint container after each use with water or solvent and then also spray until the water runs clear. No need to buy another container

is it typical that you have to thin the paint? Sounds like a lot of prep for someone who isn't too familiar.

with most handheld sprayers you need to thin the paint to some degree.
I just ran 5 gallons of water based latex paint through a handheld sprayer, and it needed 1 gallon of water to stop it from drying on the tip and building up and splattering.

Yes paint has to be thinned out or the sprayer will get clogged. They have a chart and a cup almost like a funnel. You get your paint and thin it out according to the chart then scoop up some paint thats thinned out and measure how fast the paint runs out of the funnel cup. The speed in which paint comes out the bottom will tell you of you need to add more thinner or not. Not all paint needs to be thinned out. There is a needle to clean out the nozzle and everything paint touches should be thoroughly cleaned with with water for latex based paints or thiner for other oil based solvents

Think of it this way. Imagine trying to drink a slurpee through a very skinny straw, or a very thick liquid. You might not be able to so you water it down and the liquid will be easier to drink. A lot of paints are too thick to pass through the nozzle which needs to be small to atomize the paint coming out. This is why paint need to be thined out.

Need to be cleaned out but reading some reviews it seems this model can be complicated to clean so i am skipping this.Looking now into the Vonforn seems to be about same quality and more compact. Has 100watts less of power but its not like i am going to paint a stadium.Joints, 4 Nozzles and 3 Patterns, Easy to Clean, for Furniture, Cabinets, Fence, Walls, Door, Garden Chairs etc. VF803$37.00
