I have this model that also includes the fax (743) since pandemic.
Pros:
1. Prints very well and fast. Documents and presentations look great but it's not a photo printer.
2. Scanning and copying look very good.
3. Rarely loses wi-fi connection. It's usually because there's a change on my router.
4. High yield toners last a long time. And with OEM toners, I've never had a spill or smudge.

Cons:
1. Canon OEM toners are the only ones that seem to work consistently in the machine. I've tried various 3rd party toners and they either leak or print horribly. If you buy this machine, I wouldn't bother with 3rd party toners and expect to pay for OEMs.
2. Never found any good deals for OEM toners. I ended up buying them through Staples with their store rewards credit. Which you then use to buy more toner.

It's a great machine, especially at $199. However, it may not include any toner cartridges (couldn't tell from the listing). I'd do the math on it before buying if you have to buy toner separately.

Ricoh isn't an off brand. They are common photocopiers in offices across the globe.

I have this printer and definitely recommend making sure the toner cartridges are in your budget. I have it for home use and just print occasionally, maybe a couple pages a month and random heavy printing days throughout the year. The high capacity cartridges lasted me ~2 years before I needed to swap them, but boy did it hurt spending $400 on a new set.

Solid printer though, it prints very fast and the print quality always looks good.. I've never had any connection issues with it either, it lives hardwired via ethernet in my basement and has always woken up, warmed up, and started printing whenever I've needed to print random things.

I got tired of dealing with the cheap toners, specially the color ones, and ended up getting an Epson Ecotank. I was using a Ricoh before, very nice machine but you either spend $400 in OEM toners or you are stuck with the cheap $75 packs from amazon that start having print quality issues
Epson ecotank is actually good. I'm tempted to get another refurb ecotank for sublimation printing only.

I have one of these and I only print black pages as I turn off color printing - but today I couldn't print black because the printer wants me to change all of my color cartridges. Why?

and, I've always had issues with the multipage feeding mechanism. Also, it doesn't seem like my macBook Air supports the drivers any more - I have to scan through my android app.

Don't do it. I wouldn't take this printer for free. Have to uninstall/reinstall it often for devices to pick it up for wireless printing and very expensive to refill the toner cartridge.

Would buy a Canon over a Brother printer any day, but prefer HP.

Wait ... what?

Are you trolling?

That's literally the exact opposite of conventional wisdom.

Brother is by far the best printer brand in terms of reliability and cartridge price. They just fall a little short on print quality.

Canon and Epson are neck and neck for best print quality, although I'm not sure Epson even does laser anymore. But they both do nickel and dime in crappy ways. I have the exact printer that's being sold here and the cartridges are more than the printer. People are saying 350, but the high capacity set is more like $550 if you go OEM. The printers are also notoriously bad with non OEM inks. I went through 4 brands before I finally found one that works, and I still end up buying brand name for black, because it's the only truly reliable brand.

HP is known for being garbage. They pack in the most features for the lowest price, but they make it up in ink/toner cost just like Canon and Epson. Print quality is better than Brother, but not as good as Canon or Epson. They have by far the worst reliability scores and typically only perform well for about a year or two. They have buggy software that often includes bloatware and adware. They are widely considered the worst of the worst, although I will say given my experience with this Canon MF741-Cdw I might have been better off with one, because their toner isn't AS bad.

I don't print very often, but I bought a Canon df4880w laser printer back in 2013 for $100 and i replaced its toner cartridge for first time in 2017, that is when I felt I got lucky buying the printer, because i was able to buy generic cartridge (2 for $9). one of which i used recently. Since then I bought a Brother laser printer L2395dw for $83 on clearance from Office Depot couple of months back and prior to buying looked up generic TN760 cartridge can be bought for around $20, which is still expensive but not as expensive as the printer itself. I would probably not buy a printer before researching cost of generic cartridge.

I coundn't find anything else to buy with my AMEX $200 Dell credit, so bought a toner through Dell.

I've had a similar model to this this Canon for about 5 years. Mine is the 500 series but looks the same. They're very reliable. Never had a single issue with it. I agree with everyone else that the 3rd party toner has poor print quality, typically streaks.

I support the spirit, but unless you do a lot of color printing, these cartridges last quite a while for occasional home use. It took me nearly 5 years to replace the black cartridge on a similar Canon printer, and the color ones still have a lot left (I print a few pages per week).

If you buy this for professional/office use, ignore everything I said.

I've used Canon both professionally and personally and vastly prefer them over the alternatives, which I've also used. I specifically dumped a Brother laser AIO for a Canon (644Cdw) and could not be happier. I had some issues with networking with the Canon, but that was my inexperience, not the printer's fault. Otherwise, it's been excellent for printing and scanning and as reliable as I could ask for. Of course, my opinion might change as I search for replacement color cartridges -- already replaced black with some off-brand which was fine (didn't last long but price reflected that).

Agreed that HP is hot garbage. I used them for years but will never again.
