P.S. Even with the Miyoo, many people ditch the stock OS within seconds of unboxing them.

edit: this comment was about the R36H when it was first in this post.
The longest part (hours and hours!) of it was going through every single emulator folder and cleaning them up of unwanted/duplicate games.
Sadly, I think most recipients of my gifts play with it for a little while, then the appeal wears off and it becomes a paperweight

My kids love the experience of playing TMNT Arcade and (and other classic Beat 'em Ups) adding unlimited credits". (Dad you had to put quarters to play????)
Agree with all commentary to curate the SD card to trim down to <100 across all the systems. You can always load the others later. Otherwise it's very overwhelming

P.S. We can tell you truly know your stuff (and care) in the threads you participate in!
Does this come with all the retro games or do I need to find them myself somewhere?
Would you recommend the Magic MZ 28 over this one?
This should come with lots and lots and lots of retro games, but it will likely have plenty of holes as well. The included games are in no way curated. For example, most of these systems will have 1000+ NES and SNES games alone but somehow lack that one game you want to play from your childhood
I love my Magicx MZ 28, but it is VERY small (easy to pocket though) I like that fact but others may not, also I am an average sized man 5'9". If my hands were any bigger it might be a challenge to play. If you have bad eyes is another consideration because of the small screen. The Magicx in theory would be more powerful but depending on the games you want to play it might not matter (anything below N64 or Dreamcast should be a wash). I don't own the R36S so cannot compare the two but I am personally leaning towards the R36H because that looks like a more comfortable formfactor being horizontal.
Adding games is super easy but also a ethical gray area if you don't own the original games. Also some of the ROM sites are sketchy.
I just remembered, but setting up all the controls for various systems and specific games took a very long time too. Luckily, copying a sd card image brings everything over!
SOmething that is hgihly configured, polished interface, and ready for roms.
Basically, I 1000% know how to do this stuff, I have multiple 5090 based workstations, i have an m4 mac (which i started setting retroarch up on lastt week but i've been busy)
I just want a plug and play solution that has all the conguration stuff done and is really optimized using the best emulators and with a nice interface that i can dump roms onto, plug controllers into, and just easily play games ... I want an out of the box easy experince that's set up and configured well so I dont' ahve to do it.
I can get the roms, but i'll also take the roms.
Your experience largely mirrors my own. I set up my Steam Deck to emulate everything up to PS2 and GameCube (alongside all of the Steam games I installed, of course); and yet I find myself reaching for these devices much more often than any other gaming hardware I own. There's just a certain level of convenience and comfort in knowing your handheld "only" ran you maybe $30 - $50 (but it can still do so much); whereas I find I hold my Steam Deck and Switch the same way I would a fragile carton of eggs, making it a bit tougher to enjoy while playing (because I worry about accidentally dropping them in the back of my mind)
I truly hope the R36XX meets your needs as far as finding a decent one with a 3.5" display (those 2.8" screens can be tough for games with a lot of text, like RPGs).
