Gateway sold their brand name to a cheap Chinese junk company. Ridiculous deal or e-waste? In September 2020, Acer revived the Gateway branding on laptops and tablets sold exclusively through Walmart. Acer commissioned Bmorn Technology, a Shenzhen-based technology company, to manufacture and sell these Gateway branded laptops. The new line of laptops is a rebadging of Walmart's existing EVOO-branded laptops. The laptops' sound systems are tuned in partnership with THX.

I previously bought two of these about 3 years ago, one refurb for about $300 and another new from Walmart for $250 but it was the Core-i5 version but that came with 16gb and 512ssd. These are the same chassis. Good for the price but, the screen is super washed, dim, trackpad is awful and keyboard is not good either. Also, I am not sure about the Ryzen version, but both of mine had boot-loop issues with Windows that needed a usb recovery install and complete wipe - I suspect that is the reason for the massive amount of refurbs due to people returning them. My wife still uses hers. I was using the other in the office running two monitors, and it can run with the lid closed - but - the heat buildup caused the trackpad to warp and unseat so its basically a desktop now.

Your track pad that unseated is probably due to the battery swelling. That is what happened to mine (same model) after 4 years of being plugged in. It is easy to find a replacement battery on eBay and replace it. It is not safe to use a laptop with a swollen battery. mine is as good as new after replacing the battery which cost less than $40.

Are we sure that 14.1" doesn't have upgradeable memory? This looks almost identical to the Motile M142, which I used for around 5 years, and was able to upgrade the memory on it. Really solid laptop, even changed out the battery after that went south around year 4. Eventually it just started going to a black screen randomly and I got figured it was time for an upgrade, but it was a really solid workhorse laptop for daily tasks for five years.

Does the box look like a cow?
The laptop we bought a few years ago did, reminded us of our 90s Gateway system. Not sure if a refurbished box will.

The slickdeal was for this model, that sold out pretty quickly. Wouldn't bother with the other models at all.

same happen to me - swollen battery pushed trackpad from its cutout. its basically one step from disaster when plastic surroundings pinch the battery

I would advise against buying this garbage. Wal-Mart dumped these 2 years ago. I picked up 4 for work project job site due to price. Had to return every one of them. Soo many screen issues, overheating, and just general poor performance. I remember they had the worst reviews on laptops at the time. Gateway been garbage for a long time even though Acer owns them. I am not even sure what Acer is doing because their laptops are rockstars but Gateways are garbage.

The Ryzen 3500u laptop should've been $100 instead. Ryzen 3000 cpu's should be avoided but Ryzen 4000 series chips onwards are fine.

Most importantly, as highlighted in the post to which you have replied, even Acer couldn't be bothered to build the laptops sold under the Gateway brand.

Good luck!

Owned one for three years—now the battery struggles to hold a charge 🤦 ♂️ + the track pad is pushed out and no longer working

Trust me these are pure junk...i bought one from walmart & lost the entire money...at best they are just put together to last the initial few months of the warranty period..they have a farce customer support who will bide time in several ways until you run out of warranty at which point they will say we can fix it for a fee...they should be banned in my opinion...i have to admit i didn't put time to file a small claims suit...i think they are confident that most folks like me will give up on the fight..
