i just bought a 12,000btu midea, not the U shape for $250 and I believe the 8,000btu is $220 at Sam's Club for those on a budget. I also have the U shape and it is quieter but other than that I don't see much of a difference.

Quieter, and if it's an inverter it uses less power than a regular one. If you got it for $250 you got a good price, I got the Costco 12k BTU one recently for I think $289. This deal isn't bad if you don't have a Costco membership, and have a Prime Visa or some other credit card perk offering 5%.
It now comes with drain plugs to let out the water. I was looking for one a few months back but it had been pulled from all the stores due to that issue. I'm now considering it again because I'm tired of how loud my window AC is. Idk if this one or the Costco version would be better but there's not Costco around

Midea AC window unit 12,000 BTU instruction manual states to keep plug in and only remove to drain for storage. Are you saying instruction is wrong ?
I've yet to find one for casement windows but need one for the 2nd floor
I just installed this in a casement window. I temporarily removed the glass and cut plexiglass to fit into the screen channel minus the cut out for the unit. Worked better than I imagined.

midea changed the drain plugs to allow a limited amount of water to drain, enough to keep mold growth to a minimum if not eliminate it and have enough water inside the unit to splash water onto the radiator.

The 12k btu from Costco comes with new instructions and new black plugs with porous part that allows water to drain. But first you have to remove the pre-installed blue plugs. Also, new instruction says to clean the inside parts with a spray bottle with water and brush every two weeks.
it would be nice if Amazon would match the Costco deal 🤣
Costco would still be a better deal since you can return anytime if anything is wrong with it vs Amazon, you gonna have to go through manufacture limited warranty after the 30 days return window is up.

I completely agree I just don't have a Costco membership lol

Is that an easy thing to do, cleaning the inside? Is it worth the hassle?
