Turns out products are usually purpose-built, with considerations for pricing that consumers will tolerate! Garden hoses don't need to be potable water safe.
Pointless noise, just like the people who complain about cheap USB-C cables made specifically for charging not supporting TB4/10gbps+ data speeds. They make those too, but they're more complex and more expensive to manufacture - and people like that are too cheap & too entitled to want to pay more for more functionality.
