Exactly!

This is the kind of phone you purchase, activate, and throw in the center console or glove box in case you ever have an emergency. And then you give it to your kid to use at home or in the car or plane for games, movies, reading or whatever.
Or it can be the at-home device for family members to use as a TV remote, control your smart devices, air conditioning and whatever.

So many vast uses for a phone like this.

It's a no-brainer at $40, tax included!

Just my $0.02. To each their own!

Its pathetic when one person likes to thread crap without providing any competing better offers. And that is simply because there are no viable alternatives in this price range for phone plus service. Trac has been my go to for all four kids for years. The great thing about these plans if you can keep stacking service plans, so need twice as much time is as easy as buying the next tracfone deal or buying two of these and combining the plans.

So is this locked? Unlocked? What carriers work with this?
yes, must be activated and locked for 60 days - unlock is automatic. Should work with most carriers.

QVC's ordering process is one of the last steps there's a field for discount code.

I think this is 2nd to cheapest. The other way is when 2 pack phones are on sale QVC, like the recently moto G play 2024 for $50, which comes down to $25 per 1 yr extension. This is not too bad, at $35 per 1 yr extension, plus a decent phone. The phone can be used for full-time GPS android auto use, where you download offline maps first, and occasionally use the data for traffic or disable the data only for occasional use, and offline maps fulltime.

Tip: Once the phone unlocks you can take turns signing up for all the different free carrier eSim trials. T-Mobile/Verizon/Cricket/Visible and set the mobile data to only run off the eSIM service. Just time it before a road trip or vacation where you could put the data to good use. Signing up for their rewards program with a solid referral will also get you a bonus 5000 points which is good for extending a few extra months of service, 1500 points for a 500/500/500 30 day extension. or 1000 points for an added 3GB allotment with no day extension.

So it's fundamentally broken out of the box, needing to spend additional money to make it viable?
that's the very definition of ala carte. you should try it. it's called pay for what you use, not what you don't need.

I have this phone, and it makes a great kid's phone or backup. I have the TracFone plan on the regular SIM (that's how it came), and then once it unlocked, I put the Helium Mobile Zero plan on the eSIM. If you use a TracFone rewards referral from someone, you should have about 6000 points in 2 months. You can use that to add minutes/data. Personally, I would add the 4100pt 90-day unlimited talk/text 3GB data, but it's up to you. You can also get a referral plan for Helium, but that's just worth a $10 gift card. Keep in mind that the Helium Zero plan is hard capped at 3GB/mo, not throttled.

Sometimes (I am saying this does not apply 10 out of 12 months)

Sometimes Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, QVC, HSN has $20 old fashion non android phones that are meant for senior citizens and thus are 2000s style 10 digit "dumb phones" (note these devices are 2019 or newer but since they do not have touch screen they are quite limited with the net even if they have a basic browser)

Tracfone last time I checked, allows you to activate a different tracfone device stack the minutes and add 1 more year of service, up to a max of 4 times a year. Thus these dumb phones are often the cheapest thing that come pre bundled with service. Yet this android 4 gb ram device is similar and cost $35. The non sale price for those dumb phones are $50 a device that come pre bundled with a year

I think this code is for new customers only.
You just sign up with a different email. I have done it 3 times now, twice for this phone and once for the samsung deal. For $15/mo extra you can add unlimited talk and text if you don't need the data. Makes a great backup phone or just replacement.
