Oh, sorry, I didn't think of this before because I've been using google voice for many years. I had to get a different line, but it didn't matter because I have it forwarded to my google voice number.
So, on my phone now, I have the new number on the esim, which I use for the unlimited data. I ported the original free line number to Tracfone, using a physical SIM. It is a great number, so I wanted to keep it. That is what I was using before I got the second free line.

In the same boat. I'm gonna wait until black friday... I suspect there will be some fire sales on pixel 8 / 9 pro in the not so distant future. Google making people regret their preorders with killer deals just a couple months later is practically a time-honored tradition at this point.
Worst case I can just pick up a lightly used 8 or 9 pro once the values drop. The only reason I'm even considering upgrading at this point is because I want a phone with a decent glass screen protector, and google finally stopped that nonsense after the 7 series.

only 128 GB for non XL model??

in this day and age, you need minimum 256GB
also I believe the 128GB does not have UFS 4.0 or Zoned UFS. Still using the slower less efficient UFS 3.1

US telecom doesn't do 2 year contracts anymore. They do 3 year contracts. And tie it to discounts on the monthly lease of the phone. Thus if you cancel no ETF. But that $0 phone is now $1000 and the bill is due at cancellation. Removing subsidized plans did simplify the market for consumers. Killed benefits for SMB but I digress.
And just like ETFs of old, these new 3yr "lease to own" phone contracts, the amount you owe goes go down over time. Personally, I will never sign a 3 year phone contract.

deals at spectrum is probably gone for good. last time I checked, I could have gotten the 25 ultra for free plus extra credit for trading in my p9p xl, now the trade in values for all phones are basically demolished....

Is I sign up for Spectrum, pay the $30/mth for 2 months, then cancel....Do I get this Pixel 10 Pro for $600 + $60, and when I cancel I can just ask Spectrum to unlock the phone?

128GB is plenty for some people. My P7P and P9PXL both have 128GB and it's enough. I have unlimited, full quality backup using ReVanced Photos, and I offload the images on a semi-regular basis. I also have a good chunk of my music library on my phone, though it's HQ VBR MP3 and not FLAC (I've yet to come across BT headphones or ear buds that will appreciate the quality difference, at least at the price point I'm willing to spend on my BT buds).

I'm not saying 128GB is enough for everyone. I don't game on my phones, so it's not like I have a bunch of apps taking up a ton of space. I do agree that in 2025 the base should be 256GB and this is Google acting like auto manufacturers who lock basic features behind trim upgrades so they can milk consumers. It just doesn't matter much to me, personally, and so the base 128GB variants are fine. I'm getting the Pixel 10 Pro for $500-ish since they're giving me $105 for my wife's shattered P7P (which the credit card insurance already cut me a $600 check for).

And yes, for the P10 128GB is UFS 3.1. 256GB and 512GB are UFS 4.0; only 1TB is ZUFS 4.0. Your average person isn't going to notice a bit of difference in UFS 3.1 vs 4.0, though, let alone ZUFS. The energy savings of UFS 4.0 are marginal compared to other energy drains in phones, as well. Do I think 256GB UFS 4.0 should be the lowest offered? Sure. Does it really matter? No, not for most people.

It's always a little quirky with that last day, but the phone should SIM unlock on its own on Day 61 as long as you had 60 days of paid service. You should not need to have service on Day 61 for the unlock to happen; being connected to WiFi should be enough.
