How you ever passed basic math, I'm not sure.

No, it's not an unlimited 50% off any purchase but it's very rare for any code at any vendor, to have no cap.

I guess it can combine with $10 chase monthly credit.

"50% code up to $10 off"

So not actually a 50% code. This crap should be false advertising.

No need to be snarky, he's right - while it's 50% off, you almost never can find an order on Doordash that doesn't go over $20. So in the end, it's effectively not 50% off because you'll almost always hit over the threshold.
I struggled with this for a while and found it was better to treat the coupon as:

1, 33% off $30 or 25% off $40 or 20% off $50
2. $10 off
3. Delivery cost offset

The last one helped me to avoid the urge to order something. Even in a best case scenario, the delivery costs are nearly the same as the coupon savings. Pickup coupons are actual savings. Delivery coupons usually aren't.

There's no such thing as a less than $20 delivery order on these scammy services, even if it's just dinner for yourself. There are always "regulatory fees", "convenience charges", "service fees", "small order fee", "long distance fee", and on and on and on. What starts as dinner for yourself for $13 immediately jumps over $20 if it's being delivered, and that's before the expected $5 bare minimum tip, otherwise "you're cheap and can't afford to order food". Blah, I would delete all these apps if not for the various credit card credits that force me to use them.

Or, and hear me out, a lot of people have DashPass and only pay a small (5% for me) service fee other than tip.

The last one helped me to avoid the urge to order something. Even in a best case scenario, the delivery costs are nearly the same as the coupon savings. Pickup coupons are actual savings. Delivery coupons usually aren't.

let's do a real world example.

say you want to buy some food that would cost $20 at the store but the door dash price is $22 (not unreasonable)

so $22.

- $10 promo

+ $1.10 service fee (5% if you're a Dash pass member. I'm also assuming a 0 delivery fee restaurant, of which there are many)

so now you're at $13.10. (I live in a no sales tax state)

even if you tip $6, you're still looking at $19.10, less than if you bought it in store.

but the real savings is if you buy a door dash gift card at a 20% discount, which you can easily do at Costco. if you don't have a Costco membership, you can easily find them for ~15% off at sites like GCX.

So now that $19.10 is effectively costing you $15.28, which represents a ~24% discount from buying it in store, plus you don't have to get off your ass to get it.
