I'd recommend avoiding this model unless you absolutely need a shorter appliance. The wider jar needs a lot more stuff in it to blend properly, so you'll be stopping and manually mixing quite often, and you'll need to blend longer which is annoying considering how loud it is. Get the taller and thinner one.
I made this mistake some 8 years ago, thinking I wanted a shorter blender to fit under the cabinets.

I've been waiting ever since for the blender to die so I could get a taller/thinner model, but it just won't. Not that that's bad thing, hah. (It's a Cuisinart Vitamix clone, and they don't sell taller jars.)

Hard to say, but it seems to me that the incremental potential harm from this plastic jar is considerably less than the risk of a glass one breaking/chipping/falling and injuring someone, especially a child.

lol... I had a vitamix a while back, but couldn't use it because it was so powerful, that it shut off our power
loaded with other appliances on at the same time with this roaring engine, yes, it will trip 20A kitchen circuit or definite a 15A one...

Pretty much yes. They do sell a commercial one with a quieter motor and an enclosure around the jar, the same as they use in all the smoothie restaurants. It's significantly quieter but be prepared to pay lots more.
I'd rather slow cook my soup nice and quiet and retain my sanity! its roar can give me nightmare at night! Just me!

We have a glass jar blender that has bounced off our flooring. Thickness and construction are a big deal. I agree, the thin plastic of a vitamix would not be easy to make safely with the current dimensions/design.

Too bad they removed some useful and some fun features from this Venturist "Pro" compared to the earlier (and apparently no longer widely available) essentially identical Venturist V1200, such as the adjustable off-timer and the Bluetooth connectivity (which is fun with the still-available Vitamix app, and both fun and useful in conjunction with a Vitamix-Perfect Scale or Perfect Company scale).

The "programs" on more expensive Vitamixes are truly all but useless, but one of the partially useful ones - the long "Soup" program - is essentially replicated on any "self-detect" Vitamix like this Venturist Pro in that it stops blending automatically after 6-7 minutes (the soup program stops at about 5.5 minutes, I believe) with 64-oz. container.

Auto-detect RFID can be easily defeated with inexpensive RFID disc placed under rubber bumper pad near spindle gear.

V1200 was previously available refurbished a few times from both Amazon and Vitamix directly at $199.

This is still a great blender and great deal, and I'd like to compare it to the "standard" 5200-type tall, thin container's performance, although the short 64-oz container on my E320, and my V1200 (mine still boxed, but I briefly tried one I gifted), this Venturist Pro, and all new Ascent-X Vitamixes. I can say that the short jar can certainly make a 12- to 16-oz. smoothie just fine (which is a fairly small smoothie) - ingredient order in container is key.

Yeah. Sounds like you don't need a powerful, reliable blender. Seems you made the right call.

You are correct. Glass is dangerous?

Yes. I just purchased one in-store yesterday for $299. You get a 10 year warranty, the great Costco return policy, and a brand new unit. That is worth the additional $84 to me.

Thanks for the encouragement. I also picked up one from Costco. Last few remaining in my area. I plan to go back if there is further markdown in store, highly unlikely.

Thanks for all the feedback. Decided to take a chance as I e wanted a Vitamix for years but couldn't justify the price. Hope it's as good as the reputation.

Check your local Costco for clearance prices on these. I picked up the Venturist Pro for $175 yesterday (Tempe AZ), there was one left last night
