There's devices from a house I sold 9 years ago still showing up on my Nest app. The new owner got as far as connecting them to wifi but never reset account access.

if you're worried about being dependent on a cloud provider for IoT devices look into Home Assistant. everything stays in your home network.

I know I stated that the Eteck web site does not even list them and the only review is from 6 years ago so it seems like they were on a ship that was just wandering the seas for several years or a container was lost in a port.
