USB A is the large conector we are used to. USB 3.0 is the standard that adds an 2 extra superspeed channels using 8 or 9 wires to achieve 5 Gbits. USB C is the new small conector. USB 3.2 gen 1 is the higher speed version of USB 3.0 using higher speed switching to achieve 10 Gbits. USB 3.2 gen 2 uses the extra wires in USB C to achieve 10 - 20 Gbits (18 wires, 24 pins) There are others B, micro, mini, micro B, too many to list.

You can share the drive on your home network, or use an OTP adapter for your phone I believe (at least on Android).

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I use an android app called FolderSync (the free version) to back up to a mini PC I have always on at home. I set up an ssh key to do it securely. Every night when I plug in my phone, it backs up any new photos I've taken automatically. It takes some setup, but I thought I would share that in case you find it useful. Automatic backup is a little more convenient.

I've seen this same price popping up pretty frequently among different vendors like a merry-go-round (Seagate -> B&H -> Best Buy -> eBay). Is this a tag team event or what? Can't one of them just drop the damn thing down to like $200 for a change?
... yeah a number of us have seen the different vendors doing the price dance. It is good price currently compared to other stuff. I'm not sure it will drop to 200 dollars "right now", maybe on black friday it will super sales, who knows.

There is still debate if this drive is good for NAS/DAS and good for 24/7 use. I have enterprise drives for my NAS and DAS stuff. So this is just load and unplug, and store. But others still have to decide if drive is good for other uses.
Let's hope one of them will entertain us with the Labor Day deal.

Oh, interesting. I haven't kept up with hard drives. Standard drives used to be 3.5", right? So If I wanted to shuck this drive and put it in my current desktop it might not fit? Just curious.
Does your current case have 3.5in drive bays? If not then no it won't fit. 2.5 HDD's aren't a thing anymore so all HDD's are going to be 3.5

I bought 2 of these exact drives the last month ago for 250 dollars.

So 26 x 2 is around 50 TB of data (give or take a little).

I will leave them in their enclosures! I will use them ONLY to move STUFF to them to fill them, and then UNPLUG drive and put it back in Box it came in. The transfer rate for me is between 200-230 MB/S ... which is good for mech hard drive.

I have 3 or 4 4TB nvme drives, and a number of 1TB nvme drives ... and about 10 5 TB WD portables, and 2 NAS'S and 4 4-bay DAS'S, plus 10 500gb microSD stuff, and 10 usb 250gb sticks. Etc .

I don't need more super fast transfer drives, but 26 TB mech drive is slower, but it holds a lot more data. I do have 3 copies of stuff on different media. I sort of got into habit of buying storage, and I have to "peaceful talk to MYSELF" and say enough is enough.

We all are trying to figure out what we "need", ... so LIVE and LET LIVE. I have no idea what is right for you, and you don't know what is right for me. BUT I LOVE you guys sharing your experience with this stuff, because as you tell me what works and doesn't work for you, it helps me. Thanks guys.
I am in a very similar boat as you. But I have always avoided Seagates for their low reliability. I've stuck to WD, Gtech, Toshiba, and one Adata. Have you owned Seagates prior to this? The TB/$ does seem decent and I do need some extra storage at the moment.

This is the same price that B&H durint Bilt week. The device is okay, as always limited by the cable it uses. This still uses the USB 3.0 type A to USB A cable
There is no such thing as a USB 3.0 type A interface. It's Type C, as in USB-C

Google drive is $2/mo. This is $250, so 125 months.125/12months is over 10 years. I mean dump google and all that but the math doesn't work out.
Isn't $2 100GB only?

This is 2600GB.

I had multiple migraines from reading all the comments by HDD experts in this thread. Non-standard 3.5" internal HDD, no such thing as USB-A.... 🤦 ♂️🤦 ♂️ For the love of God, I hope tech support is not your day job.

I doubt it on this one, drives maybe an 18 or 20TB version thoughbestbuy does like to run a sale (like this) only to drop another version (20/22/28) a week later (labor day?). I'm guessing we might see that $200 deal (on 18/20/22TB) next week

yeah, sounds like we are in same type boat. Yeah , a number of years ago, I bought 2 WD RED 8tb units, and 2 Seagate 8 tb units. I did buy 2 NAS's and placed them in the NAS's. The 2 8tb REDS are still working, no problems, and the 2 seagate 8 tb units died a few years ago. I found out the 2 seagates were SMR drives ... back then it was just coming out in news about SMR/CMR drives "scandal". Over the next number of years, many of us learned more about grades of hard drives.

Now, the seagates in this thread are 26TB externals and are CMR drives, which is good, but "new way to make them", ... so kind of unknown drive ... so ... for me I would not put these drives in NAS/DAS or use them 24/7 ... But for simple buy it, load it up with stuff, box it up and store in shelf/closet ... should be ok. So ... you have to decide yourself ... and you can look on youtube on other places for reviews , etc.

No brainer for me, for how I use it. If I need some stuff on my 26tb drive, I will take it out of box, plug it in, and transfer stuff to 4TB external NVMe. And also back up stuff since last time I backed it up. But also I have 4TB NVMe's that have that "new info on too", ....

Now 4TB NVMe costs around 200 dollars, and 26TB seagate hard drive cost 250 dollars.

$250 each or for both ?
LOL! Yeah ... I should have been more clear... 250 dollars each. I'm in florida so NO sales tax in august! yeah....
I'm in FL, I purchased 2 of these on Aug 13 and was charged sales tax. Today, Aug 25 I got an email that they were refunding the sales tax. So...with the 10% off offer from Seagate it came out to be $225 each, and I also have a rewards credit card which gave another 3% cash back. Should have bought more...

Haven't seen B&H, have seen BB and BB's ebay store. Thing to keep in mind that only the Seagate site is offering the additional 10% off Welcome offer which works out to $225 instead of $250.

... congrats, you made slicker dealer than me! Maybe my starting of the paypal dispute with seagate/vendor ... over them charging tax, helped all of us. And you went with the "flow" and ... the return just came to you. I was "yelling and screaming inwardly about this tax thing". I am learning to relax more and not get as "upset" when "stuff happens". Now we need to "trust" these drives are "good". Smilie
