You can get 2 glinet routers, set 1 as Wireguard VPN server at home. Take the rounter #2 to your work (or anywhere) , set it as a Client connected to your home Wireguard server. Use router #2's wifi or ports at work and your traffic will be secure as it can be.

in any scenario GLINET routers are much much better than this one.

My current router sucks power. This is probably way more efficient. The single LAN would go to my eight port switch.

Yep.

This thing is a dinosaur and requires a reset every single time you make a settings change, which takes like 3 to 4 minutes to complete. I replaced this with a GLI net router and have no regrets.
Absolutely agree. Avoid this travel router and buy literally any alternative.

On a side note, what are good upgrade alternatives that match these criteria:

* built-in battery
* touchscreen so that I can switch operation modes, settings, etc. without needing to use a phone app
* 5G or at least 4G LTE fallback option (seems a lot of current options with this are $400+)
* a couple of Ethernet ports (so that it can still be used a typical router when plugged in at a hotel, including using a wired connection for a laptop or gaming console)

Came here for this... The Gl.Inet devices I have are rock solid and work great. Updates have been irregular in cadence's, but do occur at a faster clip than most mainstream routers.

Definitely. But for 5X price. Each has it's own usage and audience.
It all depends on what you're looking for: powerful unit with a lot of capability for $200 or much weaker unit that still does what you want it to do for $40.

I'm testing this router against the GLInet Opal and this thing is much faster for throughput.
The opal will barely do above 150mbps wired/wireless. Minewhile the TPlink will do my full connection at 500mbps. I'm only using 5ghz with a selected channel and 80 for channel width.
the interface is terrible though, incredibly sluggish. also i wish it had more than 1 lan port

Prepare for all your personal info to be sent to Chinese servers, and possibly your usernames and passwords.

I don't get how people can blindly trust routers made by Chinese based companies.

I own this travel router, but upgraded to a GL.inet as well. The TP-Link is fine if you just need a basic repeater or bridge router, but it lacks features found in GLinet routers. The biggest negative for me with the TPlink was not being able to change or mangle the TTL value through the interface. This is important if your phone is your only source of internet and you need to use it as a hotspot. All data is counted against your hotspot data allotment when using the TPlink router.

In contrast, the GLInet routers allow you to change the TTL value which tricks most mobile carriers from detecting you're using hotspot data. Instead, they just see it as mobile data, which is unlimited through many providers.

If you're connecting to public wifi, the TPLink is fine, but if you're connecting to your phone as a hotspot the GLINet routers are better.

So, this takes my phone hot spot and turns it into a wider area coverage? How does my phone hot spot get to it? USB between the two?
You can connect the router to your phone's hotspot wirelessly or through a cable.

Do they make many USB-C powered routers?

Does it make my insecure work WiFi - given for us to use or phones etc, any more secure? I am always afraid using financial websites.
The padlock next to the URL in your browser makes the connection secure, wifi encryption doesn't do a lot for data security...
Lets be clear the pad lock only show there is a secure connection between your browser and the server it connect to. But it does NOT affirm the following:
  1. your PC is safe and free of malware
  2. the credibility of the end server.
  3. the security of the end server.
  4. the server your web browser connected to is the server you assumed you are making connection to.
  5. The secret key that keep the connection secure is still a secret.
  6. the session is not monitored, logged and/or recorded for future use regardless of whether it is truely secur or not.
