This thing is a dinosaur and requires a reset every single time you make a settings change, which takes like 3 to 4 minutes to complete. I replaced this with a GLI net router and have no regrets.
On a side note, what are good upgrade alternatives that match these criteria:
* built-in battery
* touchscreen so that I can switch operation modes, settings, etc. without needing to use a phone app
* 5G or at least 4G LTE fallback option (seems a lot of current options with this are $400+)
* a couple of Ethernet ports (so that it can still be used a typical router when plugged in at a hotel, including using a wired connection for a laptop or gaming console)

It all depends on what you're looking for: powerful unit with a lot of capability for $200 or much weaker unit that still does what you want it to do for $40.
The opal will barely do above 150mbps wired/wireless. Minewhile the TPlink will do my full connection at 500mbps. I'm only using 5ghz with a selected channel and 80 for channel width.
the interface is terrible though, incredibly sluggish. also i wish it had more than 1 lan port
I don't get how people can blindly trust routers made by Chinese based companies.
In contrast, the GLInet routers allow you to change the TTL value which tricks most mobile carriers from detecting you're using hotspot data. Instead, they just see it as mobile data, which is unlimited through many providers.
If you're connecting to public wifi, the TPLink is fine, but if you're connecting to your phone as a hotspot the GLINet routers are better.

Does it make my insecure work WiFi - given for us to use or phones etc, any more secure? I am always afraid using financial websites.
The padlock next to the URL in your browser makes the connection secure, wifi encryption doesn't do a lot for data security...
