# Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station (140W) A9128 Review Summary

Based on AllThingsOnePlace's comprehensive technical review from November 25, 2023, the **Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station** is a feature-rich but performance-lacking charging solution that prioritizes aesthetics over engineering excellence.

## Product Overview

The Anker Prime 6-in-1 (model A9128) is a **140W charging station** that combines four USB ports (2 USB-C, 2 USB-A) with two AC power outlets in a sleek, thin form factor. It features a **digital display** showing power consumption and port status, along with a proprietary 16-gauge power cord.

## Key Test Results

### Power Delivery Capabilities
- **USB Power Delivery modes**: 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, 20V, and 28V fixed modes
- **Maximum single-port output**: 140W (via 28V mode)
- **Programmable Power Supply (PPS)**: 16V with one port, 11V with both USB-C ports
- **Current limitation**: 4.8 amps maximum (not quite the full 5A specification)
- **Overload protection**: Trips at 165W for standard modes, 80W at 16V PPS, 47W at 11V PPS

### Performance Issues

**Major Negatives:**
- **Fails Department of Energy requirements** due to high idle power consumption
- **No Power Factor Correction (PFC)** - first 140W adapter tested without this feature
- **Poor power quality**: High voltage ripple, significant noise on DC output, and 60Hz AC ripple
- **Problematic USB renegotiation**: Any plug/unplug event causes power disconnection across all ports
- **Voltage regulation**: Output voltages run on the low side, barely within tolerance

### Physical Characteristics
- **Weight**: 461g with power cord (vs 272g for comparable standalone adapters)
- **Temperature**: Reaches 61°C after 30 minutes of operation
- **Build quality**: Very fingerprint-sensitive, dust-attracting glossy exterior

### Comparative Performance
When compared to other 140W adapters, the Anker Prime 6-in-1 **ranks poorly in most categories** except for basic power delivery. The reviewer noted it performs worse than other Anker products and lacks the power supply engineering quality expected at this price point.

## Final Verdict

**Reviewer's Recommendation: Skip**

**Positives:**
- Delivers advertised power output
- Attractive design with accurate display
- Useful combination of USB and AC outlets
- Supports PPS charging modes
- More even power sharing than some competitors

**Critical Flaws:**
- Outdated power supply design without PFC
- Reliability issues with multi-device charging due to renegotiation problems
- Poor power quality metrics
- Premium price without premium performance

The reviewer concluded that while the device **looks appealing and has useful features**, it represents "features for features' sake" without the underlying engineering excellence needed to justify its cost. The lack of Power Factor Correction and poor power quality make it a step backward compared to other modern charging solutions.

Reviews says it's UL listed. The sockets do pop up when you insert a a plug in so the prongs aren't exposed

Anker is actually sold in big box stores so their stuff is actually tested these days. I can't say anything about the past...Last one I bought did not have UL or ETL but instead I think it was tested by TUV a recognized German tester. I honestly don't know how Amazon gets away with liability for defective stuff.

took this to Singapore 🇸🇬 big hit in the team meeting 🤝 kept everyone's phones and laptops charged all week 🔋 that's the kind of thing that team mates remember during perf review season 👌

I bought my daughter one of these (might be lower power but same design), and she loves it -- only thing she needs to plug in or otherwise charge her laptop, tablet, phone, watch, and earbuds. Best space-saving thing I've found, and I'm very seriously considering buying one for me. I've tried at least 1/2 dozen different travel chargers, and none has been perfect for different reasons. This Anker hits all the high points and doesn't seem to have a weakness that I can see.

I have one. There are no UL or ETL markings. I still like the product. It can charge my Laptop and Legion Go at the same time. Its a great travel charger. I especially like the cord. A 140W wall brick wont stay/fit in many outlets.

You're kidding, right???

If you're performance assessment is based on a power adapter I shudder to think what's happening in the rest of your "company"..

At $60 I doubt that "premium price without premium performance" applies. I also do not think that renegotiating power when a device is plugged/unplugged is unusual. On the contrary it is highly unusual when products have that feature. The most concerning is the high idle power drain and potential voltage inconsistencies. However as a travel charger the power drain isnt as big of an issue.

Would it be okay to plug a treadmill into these since my only open space isn't close to wall outlet ? I also have a heavy duty 12 gauge extension cord
