Unfortunately, this is very hard to justify over just buying a 275HX/5080 gaming laptop at $2100-2400 and running it docked. You get all the advantages of this but also can put in your backpack and it has its own screen. One could even put a cooling pad underneath it to improve the thermal performance.

Or just get a more run-of-the mill mini-PC and attached an eGPU of choice.

Often teardowns of these types of mini-PCs show that it's just a laptop motherboard and cooling solution underneath anyway, although to be fair this one is so new there aren't many reports yet. IMO a good and fair price would be $1600, especially since it has the lower tier 5070 Ti Mobile and not a 5080 Mobile.

If the prices on this drop then it could be a good gaming solution for space constrained applications

Yep my thoughts exactly as well. A G16 5070 TI on sale gets you a gorgeous 240hz OLED and amazing speakers thats portable, but with the same functionality when docked all for around ~2400 sale.

Now I can't speak to how well the 5070TI in the G16 will compare with the NUC, the G16 is fairly underpowered given the chassis cooling limitations but I'm sure the gap coudlnt be too large.
