Home Depot has them for the same price, with a lot of stores having the kits available in-store for immediate pickup.

I got it on another promotion, about $160 including tax/shipping, direct from Starlink. Regular full service is $90 here due to sparse population. Residential Lite is $80. I got 5 months free for signing up (Farm Bureau, but don't know why I got the extra 3 months..., and I wasn't questioning).

Did just get this email, so if anyone is in a sparsely populated area, might want to check promotions from the Starlink website directly.

"Residential Lite at $49/mo for Your First Year
Starlink is offering Residential plans starting at $49/mo for your first year. Additionally, get an $89 Standard Kit (previously $349). Available everywhere in Nebraska.
Experience speeds up to 200+ Mbps - this means 4K streaming on multiple devices at once, online gaming, frequent video calls, and more."
Residential Lite is listed slower, and I never used it, don't think I'd notice much for a $10 cost difference, I never test less than 300, usually over 400 on the full plan.

I don't have this, but I know people who do and they don't like it very much, especially for gaming (despite their claim of 'low latency').

It's the Internet service you get when you have absolutely no other choice, I think.

And of course it's owned and run by one of the most greedy evil sociopaths and bullies on the planet, if that matters to you.

DSL is always the cheaper and better option if cable is not available

That is mostly correct. I had Alltel wireless that morphed into AT&T, and then AT&T forced me out of my unlimited plan into a pay per gigabyte plan. Dialup 33.6 was too slow and expensive. Dish and Hughes Internet were never a good option. So when Starlink was available to me, I signed up immediately. It has been cheaper than AT&T wireless, and superior in every possible way.

Have you ever sent your money for a Microsoft product? Or bought any food product that was made with Monsanto seeds? Or any other products made by corporations that push profit over public benefit?

I have grown weary of boycotting any and every product that might have some taint from a psychopathic leadership. When your entire world is tainted, what do you do in your day to day choices? You choose the lesser of evils. My opinion of Musk is that he has faults, but he is also a human with goals that exceed what most of us cannot imagine. I will not agree that he is a bad person.

And if DSL isn't available either? Cable was never in town, no town within at least a 50 mile radius has ever had it (most not even the tv kind). DSL in town isn't offered anymore.

Comparison? Fiber in town, 15 miles away, is $100 for 100/20. Other town 16 miles in the opposite direction has about 300 down, but charges a $20 base fee and $0.13 per 1GB of data used, no other plan. Starlink is faster, pings are nearly the same, cheaper (if using an amount of data) not to mention the other options are not available to me.

Blanket statements that something is better aren't really useful. Not all areas are the same. The above is my area.

Getting to be that most people I know have it, and I haven't heard any complaints. Pings are consistently in the 20s. How much better some other option is doesn't matter if it's not available. It is better and more reliable than the fiber in town. I have used that a few times, and heard several complaints. And I know a number of people that switched from it to Starlink.

Your last statement is both irrelevant and false.

Just adding context to the discussion of Starlink, we used to subscribe to Dish. For over twenty years. They would play a game of raising their prices from (guessing roughly) $80 to $95 or so, and my wife would call them to cancel the bogus or stupid charges or "offerings" to bring the price back down again. For us, the magic point was around $80. I read that there were promotions from their competitor, and some could get better rates by switching back and forth over the years, but I did not play that game. So for decades, Dish was on my shit list, but as much as I hated them, they were on my payroll.

I mentioned my Internet providers, and they were not a factor in our TV watching.

But after getting Starlink, we started using streaming video services and kicked Dish to the curb. Dish will never invade our home again. They are scoundrels, they have used and abused their position for decades, and now that they have lost their "lordship of the realm", they have nothing to offer. But Dish can enjoy my lifelong derision and hate that they earned from their decades of abuse that I put up with. Why did I put up with abuse? Because I pay the bills but my family demands TV. And when Dish was the only game, I had to satisfy the family.

Going back to normal mode, I kicked Dish to the curb and the family has been happy with Starlink and moving flexibly between various Roku subscriptions month by month. Unlike the Dish Nazis, most Roku plans are easy to start and easy to end. They usually let you cancel before the term is up, and let you go to the last day. Sometimes they will give an offer to keep going for a short term for a reduced price.
