From what I have seen, yes. The way the nozzle is built requires more "poop".

So long as you don't need the extra size the 5M is really good.

The k2 plus wastes a lot of filament because it has a long nozzle so has to purge a lot.

How does this compare to bambu x1c? I'm new to all of this been contemplating about both brands.
My K1 Max has been great for about a year and 1/2 and my K2 plus ( only a few months old) has been flawless! My K1 Max was the first 3D printer I owned ( out of about 8) that I would sent a print and no look and come back later and just take it off the build plate. I have had some reliable printers in the past but I always at least watched the first layer go down before leaving them! With the K1 Max I sent the print and I have no worries that when I come back in a few hours what I sent to be printed will be waiting for me! That being said If I was buying today I would probably go with the new Snapmaker U1 Kickstarter for $799. but for $359, you can't go wrong. I have never owned a Bambu, they just don't offer what I am looking for. Either small build area and I don't like the dual print head of the H2D personally. The H2S would have been a contender but it is late to the ball game and I am already set for 3D printers. The dual print head of the H2D prints multicolor faster but is much slower for single color prints (99% of my prints) and it just adds added complexity to repairs and maintenance I am not looking for. The close sourcing is a negative as well but not a deal breaker if they offered something great at a reasonable price.

Former Creality owner, current BambuLab owner here. I can't speak to the long term reliability of these K series Creality units, but I think there's a reason you're finding countless refurb units flooding the market. My experience with BambuLab hasn't been perfect, but the overall performance and reliability is a generation ahead. I had hoped the K2 units would introduce more competition into the marketplace, but I see so many 3D print subreddit's with user gripes and complaints.

All of that said, if you don't mind tinkering and troubleshooting, that K1 max looks like a killer deal for a single color large format printer.
haven't tinkered one bit with my K1 Max or K2 plus. I have had to fix filament jams and clogs ( carbon fiber printing) normal stuff here and there but thats the same for every printer especially if printing carbon fiber with a .04 nozzle !

For what it's worth - I've ordered 2 refurb K1s from this seller and both had issues.

Were this issues fixable by tinkering/leveling or issues that made you return the whole unit?

If you are doing a single item print, yes this does waste more due to the longer nozzle requiring more material to be purged. But if you are printing multiples of smaller items then this will use less purge material than something like an X1 Carbon on a per model basis because you can fit almost twice as much on the build plate and the purge is per layer.

Amazing deal on the K1 Max.
I got the same refurb from the same seller last year for just under $500 and it's been a solid printer. I've had a few issues (mainly due to user error), and did a warranty claim, and ended up getting refunded for my purchase -- I then ordered the parts myself and fixed it myself.. Mine only had a 1 year warranty.

With the 2 year warranty this comes with, it's a no brainer.
I think I am missing something, on the K1 Max I only see a 1 year warranty on the listing. I am thinking of pulling the trigger but don't want to miss out on an extra year of coverage because I am slow. Is there something else that I need to do to get the 2 year?

I believe since it is eBay certified refurbished then the 2 year warranty is offered through Allstate.

Both needed parts. A full print head replacement fixed the first. One still isn't fixed. We've replaced the motherboard. They were not willing to take it back and with the time of shipping parts it's gone beyond the PayPal window.

I just got the K2 plus refurbished with a similar deal about two weeks ago from this seller. It had a small scratch on the outer wall, not on the glass, a few scratches on the print bed, and it didn't come with a spare nozzle. I emailed the seller, and they sent out a new nozzle and print bed within the next week.
The printer had 109 hours on it when it arrived, and it had a test print time lapse saved on it from May 2025. I have already put another 200 hours on it without any major issues. A few small things, like a clip for a bowden tube broke off, and I had to print and install a new one. Overall, for how much you save from buying new, this was well worth it. Based on other reviews, it can be a bit of the luck of the draw with the refurbished version, but the seller responds daily and has fixed all of the issues that I had very quickly.
I would highly recommend this deal based on my experience.
