Don't think I can trust Ryobi for pressure washers. They just had a recall for another model because the capacitor overheats and explodes. There have been 41 reports of explosions that resulted in 32 injuries. Buy at your own risk.

Means nothing. It's about equivalent to buying a 7hp shopvac that will never pull more than 2hp from the wall outlet, as higher would immediately trip the breaker.

At 12-inches with the 0-degree tip, a 2500psi pressure washer may push 50psi. A 1700psi pressure washer may be 2/3 that, but it's likely much closer. Switch to an equivalent 15-degree tip on both and they will be about the same; the increased orifice size makes the pump gpm the limitation. A "1200psi" 2.0gpm 120V pressure washer would perform far better.

Few electric 120V pressure washers even come close to their pump's rating at the tip - 1000-1200psi at the tip is normal. You know how when you pull the wand trigger, you get a burst of water, then it smooths out (especially on more powerful/gas units)? That's closer to the higher pressure of the pump's peak rating, but it can't maintain that pressure. Once the spray gets larger than the tiny hole in the tip, it continues to drop off in pressure exponentially.

It is a capacitor exploding, not the pressure chamber. Now THAT would be a big problem.

1800 PSI seems kinda meh though? Should I hold out for a deal on a 2500 psi model? Wirecutter likes the RY142500.

I have an older 1600 psi version and it works great for washing cars, cleaning driveways with the attachment, and car undercarriage with a different attachment.

Edit: I don't think I'm using a ryobi drive way cleaner attachment I'd imagine this works as well.

I have a similar model and the biggest recommendation I can give is skip it. Not cause of the pressure but because of the lack of wheels.

Wow. Is there a site that tracks this information?

I bought this (without the surface washer) a few weeks ago, works great and plenty powerful for my occasional use around the home. One of the best purchases I've made in years. No complaints so far. I am not using pump protector as per user manual (I store it indoors with zero risk of freezing), I guess I'll see if that becomes a problem down the road. Haven't had a pressure washer before so not sure how important that actually is.

Yep. Maybe that explains why HomeDepot has been OOS on the automotive-specific washers. When I called Ryobi they said they were getting out of the pressure washer biz.

Thank you, slickers. I almost pulled the trigger until I read your comments, and noticed "power type: corded". I thought it was cordless at this price.

Cordless isn't really that useful since you're still tethered to the wall with the water hose

I've had the older briefcase model just like this for 7 years. I've done nothing to it besides blow out the water for winter storage. Works every time. Just now gonna need to change orings for quick disconnects. Be realistic about the jobs you will need it for.

Would buy again.

I would really recommend looking at the Westinghouse ePX line of electric pressure washers. I got the 2500 PSI (1.76 Max GPM) one, but they also have a 2100 PSI (1.76 Max GPM) one for $90. The Westinghouse surface cleaner is ~$27, so you'd have to factor that into the cost if you're looking for that attachment, but the Westinghouse pressure washer has been a solid product for me.
