This is 3+ years newer, supports 2 additional surround channels, and features HDMI 2.1a (vs 2.1 which had firmware fixes and some still don't trust that it will deliver full speed on 2.1) do note however that this is a 100 watts per channel (with 2 driven at 8ohm as most receivers market their power) the inflated watts on the site are for 1 channel driven at 6ohms which is highly misleading.

Unless it is significantly cheaper or you really really *really* like Yamaha sound there is no reason to go for the Yamaha over this at this price.

This is newer, powers 9 channels internally, 2 independent sub outs, includes Dirac Live and access to DLBC.

This or Yamaha Aventage RX-A4A?

So if I have only 1 sub I still have to buy DLBC?

Ha, I'm in the same boat. My ~12 year old RXV-673 just died and sticker shock is one way to put it. Even used ones on FB are $4-500. I paid $400 back then, so having to pay double is crazy. Seems like a good deal though.
Hmmm glanced on OfferUp here & found several comparable to your receiver, price range was $85-$150. Yes as far as new, if you need 9 channels & after Dirac this is the way to go in my experience.
Yeah just trying to get something new if I can. I don't really *need* 9.2, but with the x1700h being $600 I figure the $150 extra on this is worth it.

I ended up buying last night after going back and forth.

To get Dirac's subwoofer/bass correction/integration, yes you will need DLBC.Without it, DL uses the AVR bass management to calculate it into the calibration.Often people believe that is good enough and don't find DLBC a benefit especially for the cost.

No. You still have DLBM that allows you to set crossovers in Dirac and is part of the base Dirac license (for models where DLBC is eligible). I have one sub and only using DLBM on my Denon 3800. Easier to tune with 1 sub but if something like "Phase" needs tuning, then you're better off getting DLBC as well.

Yes if you have no brand preference & don't need more than 9 channels, this at this price is probably the best option right now imo. It's a very capable unit & with preouts, 2 independent sub outs & access to DLBC it's positioned pretty well as future proofing imo.

Andrew Robinson posted a great review for this unit on YouTube. I'm in for one since the RZ50 I bought last year came in destroyed by FedEx and I never replaced it.

My denon s970h has helped with keeping my Klipsch Rf-82iis , rc62ii speakers tamed from the harshness and bright sound...and dialogue sounds nice and clear with the dynamic feature..i wonder if this will do the same after configuring it?

I would add that is all DLBM does/adds, that is NOT their correction/integration. Dirac gives a general overview of what each of their RC offers here. You will notice toward the bottom they state:"ART vs. Room Correction (RC)RC corrects frequency and impulse response for each speaker individually, averaging performance across the measured area. ART goes further by using MIMO to actively control the sound field using all speakers, resulting in significantly better spatial consistency and target curve adherence across seats. RC does not perform dedicated bass management or active sound field control like BC or ART." https://www.dirac.com/live/art-technology/

I would add he mentioned he used this with SVS's Titans, performing very good with them. I've set this up with Primes & at average listening levels, no problem at all very capable. In my experience the only real advantage to the RZ50 is if you needed the extra channels.

Adorama is killing it on these deals

This is as cheap( perhaps less) than the front page deals that were on the now 4+ year old RZ50

I dont own this unit and cant speak to long term personal experience of it

But the RZ50 (that I used to own) was a phenomenal unit for me

In fact A/B in my home in a 5.1 system with bookshelf speakers and each models out of the box room correction. I didn't like the Denon X4800 any better
In fact, I preferred the Onkyo due to the standard Dirac room correction

Assignable? Yes you can drive your L/R fronts with an external amps using the preouts.
Here is the manual that can answer other questions.

I feel like just about all receivers are 100x2 @ 8 ohm. Once it starts driving additional channels, it sure drops quickly.
