Does it work well as a standalone TV speaker? Or beam definitely outperforms

I know someone with the same setup. They returned these when they found out that the large speakers in the front typically don't play any content, only for atmos I think. Ridiculous. Watch a YouTube video on them. This person thought something was wrong but no, terrible design.

Did they turn the option on in settings? It's true these speakers are probably only worth it if you watch a lot of atmos content. if you don't need spatial audio rendering its a hard point to make to keep them.

The settings option lets you have full playback for content like music. In some other surround modes there are some drivers that don't fire often or fire quieter on the era 300 due to surround tuning.

I have Sonos Arc with Sub Gen 3 and the older version 2 Sonos one as surrounds. I use Fire stick 4k and sometimes the TV's built in Google tv. Never had problems with sounds playing through the Arc (Largest speaker). I think you you are saying is the surrounds only play ambient sounds which is the way it's supposed to be. Surrounds are like cars panning left to right or try to go from back of the room to forward. So surround speakers don't typically play at full volume.

Another thing you need to be aware of is your source. Netflix, Plex, Hulu, Youtube TV vs Youtube, Pandora, Spotify, etc. You need to make sure these apps are able to output Atmos, Dolby 5.1, multichannel audio. If your app only can output Stereo 2.0 the sound will only be in the Arc and not on the surrounds.

However when you go into the Sonos App there is a setting for when music is playing do you want your surround speakers to be for full sound or ambient sounds.

Not sure if this is what you meant.

The price is for one speaker; this is the lowest price I've seen on the ERA 300 this year, and it's well worth the price as a stand-alone pair or add-on for a surround sound setup.

IMHO, it's a must! You can never go back to the standard soundbar+sub, unless you have very deep pockets or heavy cerumen in your ears.
