Instead of buying these crappy fridge filters, I think it's better to have an undersink filter that feeds your fridges water.

So, how do you tell that to your fridge when it sets off a reminder that it's time to change the filter ? Some manufacturers will cut off the water supply if you don't change the filter.

Fridges normally have a reset process to act like the filter has been replaced.

Is that a new thing. I've never owned or rented a house with a fridge that cut off the water supply including the Frigidaire that this filter belongs to.

It's true, part of Trumps plan to combat his recent passing of the restrictions on shower heads. All part of the Big Beautiful Bill !

I was suckered into buying one of these combo deals on SD a while back. I shortly found out after that generic filters that do the same thing and do it well can be found on amazon for 1/10th of the price of these OEMs.

Pass on these folks!

For a second, I thought the price was for the actual refrigerator.

It's not a new thing. It also has nothing to do with any political garbage. Some manufacturers, for example GE, installed RFID tags on water filters. Basically they expired them if they weren't used by a certain date, or, if a certain amount of water was filtered. No matter the case the advice for an external water filter is the best here. External inline water filters are easy to install, easy to replace and are better all around. For example: https://a.co/d/3sdVP1t.

Note: I didn't do research to pick the best one, but two for $9.50 each sure can't be beat.

Unless you know your tap water doesn't contain lead, you may want to make sure the generic filters you're buying can filter it. Many of them don't.

Great point. Thanks! Yes. You are right.

Check what you need to filter out prior. As mentioned I did a quick search on inline filters only. Not specifically pushing a product at all.

Not sure about Frigidaire, but I had a GE that had to use genuine filter; there's some rfid tag somewhere on it that tells the fridge it's a legitimate GE filter or not.

Last time I bought this water filter it was defective. When you push it in, it would not lock and it would not click securely into place. The solution that worked for me was: you have to remove the little plastic piece with teeth from the new filter (this part was defective) and replace it with the same piece from your old filter. The piece can be pushed sideways and removed with a screwdriver.

Oh makes sense. With all the moving I've done over the past 6 years I've purchased filters Samsung, LG, Whirlpool and Frigidaire in the units I stayed at since I need ice. We had an old GE at one rental I was in that didn't have this RFID but they installed a new whirlpool which also didn't have that garbage.

Guess we know to avoid GE. Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Samsung and LG I know don't do that in their new models from the ones I've come across
