If you haven't seen it, it's a masterpiece. When it came out, critics railed on it because how they used it to sell toys. But every kid who watched it looks back on it as a time piece. Weird al made one of the songs. Many heroes die, as the new generation comes.

This ^^. Even today this is the best transformers movie of all time. Yes there are some animation errors as is the case with the animated series, but still the best transformers movie ever due to the gutsy plot twists (don't want to give anything away...)

The Transformers: The Movie was released in 1986 and the current distributor is Shout!.
MoviesAnywhere only supports movies from these major studios (they pool the streaming costs):
  • Sony Pictures Entertainment
  • Universal Pictures (including DreamWorks and Illumination Entertainment)
  • The Walt Disney Studios (including Disney, Pixar, Twentieth Century Studios, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm)
  • Warner Bros. Entertainment

So many of the animation errors are due to scenes they just never animated (especially the Optimus/Megatron fight). There are a lot of great videos on YouTube where people are animated these storyboards and splicing them into the movie.

I can only chime in based on my frail memory of being a 11 year old kid who after watching Transformers the movie at the theater walking out feeling extremely disappointed. It felt nothing like the cartoons that I had watched before. It was a big departure from what I had loved. I think that was pretty much the end of transformers for me anyway at that point. I've never seen it since.

As for GI Joe the movie I was more disappointed because I loved GI Joe and I remember two things. I was confused why it was called a movie when I was watching it on a Sunday night on regular TV. And the Serpentor storyline was awful. Really really awful.

This movie came out 40 years ago -- would it be possible your taste on movies have changed since?

And have you watched at least the G1 cartoons since? Season 1 and Season 2 is nothing but individual filler episodes with barely any "plot line" holding it together, where the 2 factions are claiming victories on an elementary school playground where they shoot like stormtroopers and guns set on stun.

Don't get me wrong, they're all a marketing ploy to sell you new toys but there's no way they would have been able to make a 90 min feature film with the writing of the 1st two seasons.
