"There is always a small amount of material at the end of a job that the chipper won't accept for one reason or another. In order to make this service viable, a small amount of random debris should be expected in each load. Just chuck it in your refuse bin."
WHY IS THERE GARBAGE IN MY CHIP DROP?
In some cases you may find small amounts of garbage or small rocks in your wood chip pile. Please understand that arborists often rake and clean areas right next to roadways, and cannot sift through all of the piles to remove all of the garbage. If you feel like you've received an excessive amount of trash in your load, please let us know. If you find a shredded glove, a soda can, and a candy wrapper, search for the arborist. He may be in there.
No it attracts them out of your house and into the chips. Seriously, I think it probably would attract termites. I have some wood on the ground that I use for smoking and I found some termites in it, so I built a wood rack and now have it off the ground.
Just keep your mulch one foot below your sill line to avoid carpenter ant and termite issues. A lot of people mulch right to the sill, to cover their foudation, but that just creates a freeway for the critters.
Our city does this, but you have to go to the site and pick up the mulch yourself. It's everyone's old shrubs, trees, you name it that is ground down. Sometimes the mulch pile looks pretty good, clean.. then there are times when it looks like a couple of those pictures, double work cleaning it out.
One summer it started smoking, the pile was getting too big sitting in the hot sun.
Has anyone ever received a drop off from them before?
I have. Make sure you read the expectations. Time frame for free drop could be same day or more than a month after you sign up.
Try to get the load delivered on your property. If it gets delivered in the street or on the sidewalk, you can get fined for blocking the right of way.

For my property, I will not use the service again. There is no way for me to receive a drop without it blocking either the sidewalk or the street.
The pile I received was drop where I requested. However, it was so large that it took up half the street. The drop was probably double what my property needed.
If anyone does this, prepare for a giant pile. Make sure you have plans in place to share with a neighbor or something if you can't fit the wood chips all in your property.
