I got the last version of this for $450 a couple of months back and it's a pretty decent laptop for the price. Drive and RAM are upgradable.

Same but I'm disappointed it doesn't have another M.2 slot nor a function lock key

How is the quality of these? Do they compare well with the ASUS Vivobook or Zenbook series?

I bought three asus laptops and two lenovo ones. None couldn't continously work for several days without reboot or app suddenly exit. Hp victus is the only one that could work for a couple of months without any issues.

This is more in line with the Acer Nitro series. Good specs but chonky, hot, and heavy. Good bargain desktop replacements that can game fairly well... but 5+ pounds this is not your ideal travel laptop. Good for your teenage gamer and you don't want to drop real money.

Pros = decent price, good specs. Good budget gamer. Ram and M.2 upgradeable
Cons = big and heavy, dedicated AC charger (no usb-c charging), no touch screen

YMMV of course, but I see an open box - excellent for 617 at my location.

I'd categorically never buy HP anything. They are a terrible brand which will forever disappoint you with bloatware, unreliability, and anti consumer practices.

me and my mom bought the amd 8 series version of this laptop with 4050 for xmas for my nephew. we havent even upgraded it yet and he loves it, hes 17. i imagine the 7 series is worth it, but i understand the issue with not having an extra m2 slot, since games are huge these days. Price was the same btw, but you know with the state of prices these days, that laptop is like 100 or 200 more.

Full agreement here on this point. HP laptops, even their so-called "high end", have some of the worst return/service/failure rates from what we've seen through the years. Some of the parts are replaceable, sure.....but their customer service is awful. Even for business customers. Gone is the HP from the good old days.

I'd have a hard time arguing with my peers when they say "I wouldn't wish them on my enemy."

The best? Lenovo's Thinkpad series, typically the T and X lines. At least with those, if something breaks, you can actually repair it. Odd, it's really rare if/when they go on sale. Almost as if they don't need to discount their best products because they're selling well enough. Hmm.

(Most Thinkpad T and X sales are at the end of a model's sale cycle, just before or after a new revision is released.)
