Apple refurb or used?

I took a chance on one of these eBay refurb deals from a similarly reputable seller (tekdeals) and the "Excellent" MacBook was new, still had screen paper, still had AppleCare+ coverage and had 1 battery cycle. I think "Excellent" means unused for these sellers.

Just received mine today (silver.) It arrived with a dead battery and the chassis and trackpad appear warped, as if the battery is swelling. The device otherwise appears to be in new condition. It does have an Apple warranty, so I am taking it to the Apple Store to be checked out.
how were you able to verify it had an apple warranty?
To clarify, the device powers on. The battery was dead (out of power), not broken. It holds a charge.
Thanks for the information. I'm still dragging my feet and have been curious about those who have ordered and the condition of what they received.
For what it's worth, Apple is replacing the enclosure, battery and trackpad for free under warranty. Turnaround time is 3-5 days in my area. YMMV of course.

I am curious. It sounds like Apple considers the warranty start date as the date of purchase. Was that and sort of issue with your Apple service when buying from this ebay seller on a product they have labeled "refurbished"?

My MacBook arrived today. It was running OS 14.2 and battery fully depleted. "Bulk new" is definitely the condition - the label says "new" and laptop arrived wrapped with the typical Apple parchment paper and screen protector. Definitely seems new to me. I opened it today (September 8, 2025) and Apple warranty is good until July 14, 2026, so not quite a full year. Also came with a new Apple 140W USB-C charger and Magsafe cable. At this price, I'm thrilled.

The temptations continue. I should probably bite the bullet and buy one.

As Palpatine would say... DO IT.

I will say though, I am going to miss Windows until I get the hang of this...🥲

The warranty start date was the day I first booted up the device, rather than the purchase date. It sounds like RallyR32 had a bit of a different warranty experience (though mine did arrive in what looks like the same packaging as their example.) Mine is still with Apple, support still says "We'll be sending your product to the repair center soon." At this price, I am not complaining- still using my 2019 15" which still works great. 😊

I have been debating this deal vs the Micro Center deal that was a 16in M4 Max w/ 48gb ram and 1tb drive for around $2900. It's really hard to justify $900 for slightly more ram and 1-gen newer M4 Max. Am I wrong about this? Help me justify spending more money.
what did you end up deciding?

Congratulations! I'm really tempted to bite on this as well, as I need to replace my 2015 MBP.

Still deciding, but I am favoring this deal, especially since I can cash out $300 in CapitalOne shopping rewards eBay gift cards. I am in not hurry though and do wonder when we will start to see prices drop on current 16' M4 Pros with a similar storage and memory spec. If I'm being honest with myself, I would prefer M4 Pro over M3 Max if all other variables were the same.

Ordered a Silver one. Arrived in bulk packaging and in NEW condition. Warranty at fist showed it would was shorter (like 6 months remaining if I recall correctly) but after running updates the warranty reflected a full year. Great laptop.

How did you confirm that it's in new condition?
