Apple refurb or used?

I took a chance on one of these eBay refurb deals from a similarly reputable seller (tekdeals) and the "Excellent" MacBook was new, still had screen paper, still had AppleCare+ coverage and had 1 battery cycle. I think "Excellent" means unused for these sellers.

Weird, I am still seeing the price, but no inventory now. Are you looking here: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...toreid=029
whoops was looking at the silver one, having them give me a hard time price matching now, keep telling me it is out of stock, guess we'll see but thanks for the heads up!

From what I have seen on slickdeals in the past, BestBuy definitely wants the provided competitor link to show that the item you are pricematching is in stock. Color doesn't matter so much. Good luck with it. I would check again this evening to see if any inventory is popping up on MicroCenter's site if BestBuy doesn't allow you to PM "out of stock" items now. Maybe inventory gets updated in the evening??? Total speculation.

wow I just got mine in today and it actually is legit. brand new, 2 battery cycle count, got AppleCare+ on it, apple charging block in apple wrapping. Only thing this didn't have was the typical apple MacBook box. This thing is going to last me years

I'm debating AppleCare+. For me it's more of a desktop replacement so it doesn't really go too many places and it gets used maybe a few times per week. I'm hoping to get about 5 years' use out of it and just worried about the board randomly failing than anything.

Just wanted to say thanks! They finally price matched me as well. Only able to get it in the space black, but I'll get a skin. Thanks again!

I'm curious, did Microcenter have stock when you price matched? I've been loosely keeping an eye on Microcenter and haven't caught any stores with stock.

They did at the time have one in stock at a store. It now looks like it is listed as no longer carried at Microcenter.

I know, right? Not that great of a bargain when it's a modest 36gb (what a weird value of ram, most have a power of 2) and 1tb ssd. This should be entry level or slightly above entry level in 2025.

wondering the same thing as well
Do you need the more RAM? Extra doesn't matter if you aren't doing things that need it. If you don't have a hard answer as to why (mathematical/statistical/AI modeling or heavy video editing or some development work) then you don't need it. If you know you need it then you do...

As for M3 versus M4...does the speed bump change your workflow? That's doubtful

How long do you keep your laptops? If you typically keep a $3k laptop for 5 years, that $600 a year.

At $2k...you could updated this at 3.3 years...for the next year old version.

Wanna make it more complicated? Add in resale value to your calculations...and the time value of money.

Dropping 2k on a laptop sounds cray cray.

If you need a fairly powerful macbook, yes. It's an M3 Max 36GB RAM 1TB 16" brown box (i.e. new without fancy packaging) and can put applecare on it. You could go M4 Max with similar features for $2900 I believe, but I personally don't see the value for me (tb5 and a tiny bit faster). Depends on the person.
