I got a pair in early spring and have used it to hike almost 1500 miles already. Extremely comfortable and very stable on rough and slippery terrain. Not waterproof if you step on a puddle as deep as your shin, but other than that it keeps my feet cool and dry through moderate rain, smaller puddles, and wet mushy trails.

Your feet are too important to trust cheap shoes, especially for HIKING!
Also, Waterproof HOW? If it's not breathable like GORTEX your feet will get way too hot and sweaty..
I swear by Merrill's ONLY, anytime I find them for $60 or less I BUY!

Probably not.

One of the use cases where it's debatably one of the most important to get gear that is well-fitted and best quality possible due to the incredibly high stress and consistent abuse is hiking.

Doubt it at even the original price of $35. But for $16 certainly fine for walking around the neighborhood or yard work. Can't be much worse the the $13 Avia regularly on clearance at Walmart

Just a repost from a week or so ago. See my comment in that post for recommendation, which isn't this.

Ozark has a couple of products that barely scrape by. The rest belong in a dumpster including this.

I'll poke holes in the sides if they're hot and sweaty, I don't need waterproofing where I am anyway.

I'd not feel comfortable walking around in neighborhood with these and people noticing it, so yard work is the only use case

Gotta find Merrills on Clearance for that price! I've gotten many at Sports Authority Clearance aisle and some online deals over the years..

I use Ozark shoes every time I go hiking and backpacking. Tried on Merrill, keen, and other brands, non of which felt as comfortable. Can't speak for these shoes in particular but my pair has been great.
