Here's a guess: After a while, after these things have been sitting in warehouses for a year or two, they become concerned about their remaining life expectancy. So they get rid of them as fast as they can. Maybe there has been an incident where one supplier lost a huge portion of his stock to aging-out. Maybe that sent chills down the backs of all the other suppliers.
