Artika from Costco has 4 Panels of 60 X 60 CM Each (23.6 X 23.6 In.) 1.4 Meters Square (15.5 sq. ft.) Covering. In my case to cover a TV room wall (8'x 10'), Artika costed me $450. each box for $54 + taxes.Art3d for the same coverage is costing $595.

Where did you learn math? you buy 10 of these and you tell me you can cover 40 feet x 20 feet? it's a x b x c, not a x c x b x c...

What to Look for in Economical Acoustic Panels

Thickness & Material Quality

Avoid panels thinner than ~2 cm; they often serve only decorative purposes and lack real acoustic benefit. Panels 2 in (5 cm) or thicker are far more effective for sound absorption.
Better Sound Acoustics

Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC)

Look for panels with an NRC of 0.6 or higher—many budget foams only hit ~0.3–0.5, which limits their real-world impact.

I would caution anyone about using panels like this for actual acoustic treatment; from what I can tell they are about 3/4" thick total (meaning the absorptive material probably less than half of that). It may help diffuse sound and help with some high frequency echos in uncarpeted rooms, but it's not going to absorb much of anything. I would consider these primarily cosmetic panels with some acoustic benefits. If you want to treat a room for music listening/recording/home theater, I'd recommend checking out acoustimac (not affiliated, just a customer). Or if you are on a budget look into building your own 2-4in thick panels with rockwool/mineral wool, 2x4s and some burlap or acoustic cloth covering, which is what I did.

Costco has had something almost exactly like this from Artika I believe for the last year or so. I think you get 8 24x24 squares for like $50. Don't quote me but worth comparing.

I have a botched drywall job on my ceiling, and I'm wondering about covering it all up with something like this. I don't have a need for acoustics in this case. Is there a cheaper route to take? I have considered painting the ceiling black and getting some oak milled into 2" wide strips. A 1" block to space it from the ceiling would give it some depth.

Yeah, these are great at dampening echo, as they'll trap reverberations - but actual sound deadening needs more mass or decoupling.
Still a good product, but think of it as style first, audio treatment a distant second.

I was about to say that I recall Costco had these and are cheaper. Not sure they still have them though. The reason I did not purchase is because these are very popular in Asia, and a lot of people complained about cleaning them because of the gap.

Someone do the math for costco artika panels please
Costco has two varieties:

1. A more or less all wood one which is $2.93/sqft:

https://www.costco.com/.product.4000309680.html

2. And another more like this one, with foam backing, maybe better for certain types of sound issues, for $3.87/sqft

https://www.costco.com/.product.4000320081.html

The one OP linked, for comparison, is $3.87/sqft, same price as Costco (online, maybe cheaper in store?).

I would add, IF these did anything acoustically, it would be for very high frequencies.Unfortunately the solid material placed on top kinda defeats the possible minute advantage.Tackling acoustics in an environment, starts with low frequency, the opposite really won't do much.Every environment is different/unique, finding out where/ what acoustic treatments are needed for you is crucial. In general, the lower the issue the thicker the material. In general to make any meaningful difference, 4" would be a good starting point. Companies like Acoustimac or GIk will help with suggestions/starting points when you provide them your environment measurements. FYI acoustic panels and soundproofing are not the same thing.

What would you say are the most affordable options for panels that actually work?

Well affordable is very subjective on this topic. There is also the topic and what you're trying to accomplish.I have experience with Acoustimac,GIK and DIY. DIY is most affordable but hazardous work.

I used GIK for HT with very good success.
Tackled it with their suggestion, when they had sales of some kind.
I only have a few other spots but those might not be worth the cost, pretty dialed in now.

With Dirac coming out with ART to Denon and Marantz here very soon.
It will be very interesting to see how well it works.
