I remember being a kid listening to Ride the Lightening for the first time and the lines "Take a look to the sky just before you die.
It's the last time you will." hit me so hard.

Though your definition is correct, CDs were rarely referred to as albums when referring to the medium, in my experience. Album usually referred to the sound recording itself.
This is just wrong lol

I love Metallica, and have been to multiple concerts…but I have refused to buy an album since their Napster debacle.

before Napster didn't Metallica encourage fans to record concerts and share copies with friends? (aka bootlegging)

CDs are albums. An album is just a collection of songs. It can be digital, and it's still an album. Vinyl records are what you're thinking.

Always referred to as albums here. I grew up with tapes and later CDs. Could buy just a single or the whole album.

No it isn't. Depending on how old you are, there were tapes(cassettes), and albums(LPs). CDs were not a thing and when they eventually became mainstream, I, along with probably 99% of other people referred to them as "CDs", not albums.

I don't know if they are tools now, I'm out of the loop as I'm 57, but I was in high school in the 80's and they were great then.

Oh my god. I feel like I got pranked, I should not have checked them out. Why did you recommend them and suggest they were better than Metallica. They seem like a boring Pink Floyd imitation mixed with vague sterile pop. Maybe it's nostalgia you like about them, but definitely not for me.

I only brought them up because the guy I responded to had a porcupine tree pfp and name. If you want an actual great metal band with good recent work check out Opeth. Their new stuff is fantastic. Going back to metallica, I just can't stomach them ever since the napster stuff back in the day. Seeing a metal band whine and cry about how much money they're losing is about the most un-metal thing you could possibly do. Black Sabbath and Judas Priest all day
