I remember being a kid listening to Ride the Lightening for the first time and the lines "Take a look to the sky just before you die.
It's the last time you will." hit me so hard.

Why is everyone upset at Metallica for not wanting people to get their music for free? I don't know of any other artist, group, or company who gives away their work product for free. I'm sure people will come in with, what about this guy, he gives his stuff away for free? Ok, but 99.9% of people and orgs that produce copyrighted material want to get paid for their work. Just because they were the first and/or loudest / most aggressive about ending the free gravy train and protecting their material doesn't make them the bad guys.

Only you can prevent illegal downloads, so Lars can afford to buy a gold swimming pool and a gold plated shark tank bar. 🫵

What in the world is an "autorip MP3"? Is this some new fangled copyright protection or something?
It just means that Amazon automatically puts the mp3 in your Amazon Music digital library. So you have access to it in the Amazon Music app shortly after the CD ships. It used to be more widely available, but it seems that Amazon has mostly discontinued it.
Thank you. I thought it was odd since you could just use itunes or other software to rip the cd into mp3 or other audio formats.

No it isn't. Depending on how old you are, there were tapes(cassettes), and albums(LPs). CDs were not a thing and when they eventually became mainstream, I, along with probably 99% of other people referred to them as "CDs", not albums.
An album is a collection of songs... It has nothing to do with the media format or the "sound."

while technically you are correct, in the context of these posts, I'm referring to an album as a vinyl lp. I'm not using the term "album" for either of those instances. Before there were CDs and mp3s, we had cassettes(which we called tapes) and LPs(which we called albums). That is my point. Of course, I'm gonna bet you're too young to remember a time before digital media.

grew up with cassettes, but go on...

Anyways, just because you're improperly using words with confidence, doesn't mean you're right.

When someone asks "What's your favorite pink floyd album?" A sane person wouldn't think they're asking about which variations of vinyl each ALBUM was offered on. They would say without hesitation DOSTM, The Wall, Animals, SFOS, etc...

Oh my god. I feel like I got pranked, I should not have checked them out. Why did you recommend them and suggest they were better than Metallica. They seem like a boring Pink Floyd imitation mixed with vague sterile pop. Maybe it's nostalgia you like about them, but definitely not for me.
Well, no one recommended them, but I like them better than Metallica, and I just saw Metallica at NRG in Houston. But to each his own. Check out In Absentia (Blackest Eyes), Fear of a Blank Planet (title track), or Deadwing (Shallow). And the leader, Steven Wilson, put out one of the finest prog albums ever, The Raven That Refused to Sing and Other Stories. It's amazing.
