Great CPU, but im not loving the ddr 4 mobo, unless it makes sense for you (mabey you have nice ddr 4 ram already). When this cpu was 149 from the egg last week, i paired this with a used asus z709 mobo, and 32 gb of decent ddr 5 6400 for about 335 before tax, FYI. Setup absolutely rips too, but the cpu is going to need an aio when im going to be taxing all cores close to 100%, this cm 212 tower cooler isnt cutting it.

Where did you purchase the mobo? Currently trying to find a used board from a reputable seller.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/326405891431 bought one from these guys. I bought a cheaper one with a few scratches and no wifi module but it works great. recycled / harvested from cyberpower pc prebuilts. Anyway, Just be sure you real all the details and description thoroughly so you understand any issues. mine had a few scuffs on the heatsinks, no wifi / bt module, and a broken pci lock, but none of these issues were a big deal to me. I paid 79.99 before tax with free shipping.

Microcenter pricing for any lga1700 socket is crazy. The cheapest boards are some mini form ddr 4 boards.

No reason the boards should be more than the cpu. I bought the item below on eBay for less than 100.

If you have a microcenter near you, they have a similar bundle that has the upgraded i7-14700K, Asus Z790 MOBO and 32GB DDR5 RAM for $399. For the extra $70, this is a much better deal.

Wasn't testing done by various YouTubers that showed ddr5 showed no perceptible different in fps for games and that ddr4 actually provided better 0.1 and 1% lows?
I am personally looking to buy a board right now for the 14600k and I would feel like a sucker if I pay $70 more 3 more fps in my games. I've waited to buy though to find someone who has conclusive testing.
If there is no real difference and ddr4 is the better dollar for dollar performer I'd rather go with that. Tech moves so fast the next pc I build will have ddr 7 extreme light speed I'm sure.

I think thats true. but at least when I was buying my ram the last few weeks, new ddr5 was cheaper than ddr4, fwiw.
