After 2 replacements, I had to return these earlier this year. Their Zigbee radio isn't reliable. 6 out of 6 I tried with both a Hue Hub and also a more capable and higher power Zigbee router had less than 50% success rate with receiving commands (mind you, most zigbee implementations will also transmit 3 times, so in reality success rate was about 15%). They also report back with a very very low transmit power (compared to any standard Hue bulb). Which makes these even less reliable.

I've had a couple of these on the house and they seem to work as well as any of my other Hue stuff. Mine just run on a schedule every day with my other outdoor lighting (i.e. turn on at sunset/off at x:xx o'clock).

Would buy again.

Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just put Hue smart bulbs into existing outdoor sockets?

Assuming you are only going for the color feature, and not looking to also "upgrade" the fixture design...
Technical answer would be "no". You cannot use any light bulb outside because bulbs not rated for outdoor use can be damaged by many outside factors, like moisture. This applies to smart and "dumb" bulbs.
Practical answer would be "sure, at your own risk". I'm sure plenty of people could attest to doing this without issue.

For a similar design (i.e., enclosed), that's probably the best way to do it. When I installed mine, I was a little dismayed to find out that these are simply bulbs inside an adequate but not exceptional housing. For the price, I expected more, but I haven't had any problems with them since putting them up.

People would also buy this for the design. The lightbulbs are also a lot more susceptible to outside elements. I personally had 2 light bulb failures with my outdoor HUE ligtbulbs.

The main advantage of the Lucca is that it actually uses a standard, replaceable A19 bulb inside. If the bulb ever dies, you can just swap it out instead of replacing the whole fixture like you have to do with their integrated LED models. Given that a standard Hue color bulb is usually $45 to $50 anyway, you're basically only paying $20 for the outdoor-rated housing. Just keep in mind that metal housings combined with thick exterior walls can block the Zigbee signal, so you might need a repeater nearby to keep it connected.
