Thanks for posting, OP. In for one, but as with all things GPU-related, I'm not holding my breath... 🙁

We're so close to the 5080 super being released. I'm not sure it's worth it. The supers look like they actually have enough vram to be useful for AI workloads.

Can someone who is retired from NAVY order one for a friend directly or is it prohibited? Theoretically he could order for himself and ship to me, but wondering if that is a violation of the rules.

You mean could they order one to be shipped to your house because they plan to come over in the future and have you install it for them?

Agreed, but I've been waiting so damn long to upgrade from my 2080 Super that I'd rather not continue to churn with a new card release and not know availability nor market pricing. My target price for the 5080 was MSRP; no tax had me pull the trigger.

The rules only restrict who the Exchange can sell to. U are allowed to bring guest into physical exchanges and can buy for not eligible individuals, as long as ur present at Point of Sale. What the active duty member or veteran does afterwards with the goods purchased is their prerogative.

And shockingly, my card just shipped. Finally, an end to a very frustrating journey.

Good to know, I actually have a friend who retired from NAVY but now I am debating to wait until the Super cards or even next gen. My 3090 is chugging along just fine lol, it is an EVGA too nice and quiet. Only tempting part is it is out of warranty now and still sells for good amount from what I have seen so pondering to upgrade now maybe.

If you actually need the VRAM then RTX 5080 is a downgrade from RTX 3090. No amount of tensor cores is going to save you when you are getting fatal OOMs on VRAM. But if you won't really suffer from 16GB vram then I guess if you are really itching to upgrade go for it. Idk I have a 3090 and I don't really feel the urge to upgrade yet, but I run AI workloads regularly on mine.

Yes I read about it but I only use mine for 4K single player gaming with Quality vs Performance, and that only happens few times a year too sadly when good games come out. Main concern essentially it for some reason stopping working, while I wait for next gen. But then again mostly it just stays on idle for work and regular desktop tasks so I should be ok for a while.
