Looks like Magnesium L-threonate is particularly good for memory [com.au] and sleep [sciencedirect.com].
There are a lot of good brands. KAL and NOW are solid and usually reasonably priced.
The Nature's Bounty glycinate sold at Costco comes in gel caps, which are easier to swallow if that's a problem for you. But you have to take four to get the RDA.
Vitacost house brand can be good, but they usually offer a lot of confusing variations, only one or two of which are good deals, and you have to catch a sale, so I would avoid them unless you know exactly what you're looking for.
I have nothing bad to say about Sports Research, especially at this price, but they tend to be more expensive.
I personally take a combination of taurate and either glycinate or malate.
I take taurate, for heart health, and glycinate or malate because they're cheapest.
Threonate is great too, it just tends to be expensive.
Yes. It causes you to poop BECAUSE it's not absorbed. That's why forms like Milk of Magnesia, Mg oxide, and Mg citrate make you poop, while forms like Mg threonate, glycinate, and taurate don't make you poop. Mg can be a nutrient, or a laxative, but not both at the same time.
It's not completely binary. For instance, citrate is partially absorbed, so there is some nutritional benefit to it in addition to some laxative effect. But you need to take more if you want the nutritional benefit, and then you're also getting more laxative.
Hope this helps! Rep cheerfully accepted

60 count comes out to like .33 cent for me.
Edit: I stand corrected. it's actually 135 capsules in Costco.

This is a good deal that even beats Costco's current promo price by 3c per capsule (0.1995 vs 0.2295). Since Amazon forces you to receive the item with a quick shipping date, I opted for no-rush delivery to earn a $1 reward on select digital purchases.
In store, Costco's price is 145 count for $26.99. This is 90 count for $17.99. So Costco is still cheaper in store, and you can buy more than 1 at that price.

Servings per container - 30, so $0.60 per serving I have been buying Magnesium Glycinate with L-Theanine from Sam's Club for $15 for 90 servings or $0.17.
Any reason this is 3X better?
that glycinate is better for bed time. this is better for daytime as it has that cognitive benefit. you also may want to see if your sams club stuff is third party tested.
