Where is the money in this bike? Not in the shimano or WTB parts. Maybe the fork, maybe the rear shock. Definitely some in the motor and battery. But should it be?

Do you know much about the market in new e-mountain bikes?

If you did, you'd know that 4k is on the low side. I'd guess most of these bikes go for 4k-12k during the autumn when they are selling out this years / last years models.

Be aware, these things have really long Reach (look at the geometry). I'd probably size down.

This reviewer called it "budget spec".

That's true, but what's the point for a very heavy (61 lb.) bike for a serious mountain biker?

I hear you. I just looked up the specs myself. It's a heavy and long bike. Not what I'm looking for.

That said, some "serious" mountain bikers just want a nice ride, cross country, and like that an ebike can allow them to have a longer day riding.

I send ppl to Orbea all the time, but their bikes cost nearly twice as much and and def better spec'd, but that might not make a difference for the casual mountain biker.

This is the best bike for beginners to try out EMTB.
1. Alloy is better than carbon for most on emtb. (I have broken 2 carbon frames and will never buy carbon again. No manufacture warranty will save you.)
2. REI has a 1 year return policy on emtb.
3. Bosch is the most reliable motor.

If money is not an concern then the Levo Comp Alloy 4 is what I bought.

I'd rather have a Honda Ruckus and a non-E $1000 MTB

this is one of the cheapest Bosch emtb you will find right now, Alot of non bikers with opinions in here. I understand it might seem like a lot to those who do not follow the emtb space but this is a good budget spec for the price!

Why post here then if you're not looking for a emtb? I mean... makes as much sense if I were to go dog on a post for a Kotex sale.

Pretty OK price for a nice motor. I can't say much about the bike itself, mid-grade parts throughout. But the Bosch CX motor is a solid performer with excellent reliability and support. Salsa makes great bikes and I would expect this to be a solid build.

The only negative that stands out is the battery being somewhat small at 500 mAh. 600 mAh or more are where most bikes are today. This is going to give you some range anxiety.

My comment could put the value of an E-bike in perspective for someone new to MTB. But, Wow, my comment really got your triggered. Too much Red Bull this afternoon?
