Key reviews indicating that the sensors can not be use outside the house, they will work right down to 40F and not go any further.

It wouldn't surprise me if that solar panel is just a sticker.

Because the main unit uses 3 batteries. And all the remotes are battery powered also.

Where the competition uses 2 batteries each.

Personally i'd get a unit where the Sensors all have Tempeture and Humidity LCD's on them also.

I agree that the solar panel is likely non-functional. There absolutely no reason to have a solar cells indoors since there's not enough ambient light to power or charge anything. Especially with a panel that small. At best, you can run a solar calculator with a 60 watt bulb about 2 feet away, but a solar calculator isn't an active device like this receiver.

The problem with LCDs is that they're not suitable for outdoor temperatures below freezing. The L in LCD stands for "liquid." LCDs are basically crystals suspended in liquid. When a current is applied, the crystals turn, appearing black by blocking the background. When the suspension liquid freezes, the crystals can't move, making the display useless.

I don't know what's in the liquid but based on experience, it freezes around 32°F and the display will stop working. It'll resume working when the liquid thaws. What concerns me, however, is the possible damage to cheap displays with repeated freezing and thawing. Water expands when frozen, which may stress the LCD's components.
