That's a good deal, I paid about that much for this used off of eBay. Although it doesn't have VC, it's optically great for the weight and price, just annoying the zoom barrel is reversed from every other lens I have.

sigma announced a competitor to this lens coming out soon. it'll cost about double this price. Tamron also announced a successor to this one and it'll be 25-200 mm.

I find this tempting because of the price but I'm sure the new "super zooms" by sigma and Tamron themselves will be better lenses than this one. I hear this one isn't super sharp at all the focal lengths, especially the telephoto. but I don't own this.

The best all-purpose full-frame Sony E-mount lens for the money. Highly recommended!

One note: Tamron just announced a successor that will be 25-200mm, presumably for about $800. Also, Sigma just announced a 20-200mm, but it's slower and likely has worse image quality.

For the money, you can't beat this.

I don't have the 28-75 yet but I'm pretty sure it has better image quality vs the 28-200. The 28-200 is a great budget travel lens, it's what I have with me here in Costa Rica right now. Jack of all trades, master of none. Even as unknowing as I am I can see when I excede the capability of the lens. However my a7iii and 28-200 is still noticably better in most cases vs my S24 Ultra. Lugging around my Tamron 35-150 or even my Tamron 150-500 is impractical when I fly with just a "personal" bag. If you want more reach vs the 28-75 then yes it's worth it. If you don't, then no? For me it's the 1 lens I bring when I'm packing light. There is also Tamron's 50-300 which is apparently the spiritual successor to the 70-300 I have. I might check that one out one day.

Interesting, this looks exactly like the 18-200 which came with my Sony A100, I think the rumor was that lens was manufactured by Tamron as well? It was a great lens. I later purchased their 16-300 also amazing, Sigma 18-250 kinda terrible, very soft, people said you had to send it in with your camera to get it calibrated which never made any sense to me.

But back on topic, if this is made for APSC and full frame, are these mm ratings for full frame and we can expect a crop factor equivalent of roughly 42-300mm for APSC?

Or is it going the other direction whereby the mm specs are for APSC and with full frame one would expect roughly 18-130mm? Judging from the numbers that to me seems the most likely scenario but I can't find anything definitive online.
