Just bought a few Japanese style cooking knives and was looking for a cutting board made from 'softer' wood. According to the deep deep rabbit hole of Reddit, Japanese knives are more brittle and will wear out on harder boards like plastic / bamboo / acacia. Recommended woods are Walnut, Maple, and Larch wood, again according to the geniuses of Reddit.

Regardless - saw this no-name random brand on my search and with the coupon it comes in much less than comparable boards I've seen. It might be total crap and come apart in two months, but unless I plan on buying some $100+ board from one of the gourmet brands, it's a risk I'm going to have to take. I mean the cheap wood cutting board I bought from the supermarket aisle lasted 20 years before breaking apart but my super fancy $130 MadeIn carving block is only 3 years old and is already starting to split.

Thank you for taking this little glimpse into my obsessive compulsive life (don't get me started on all the stuff I read on how to sharpen knives).

It could be real walnut. South American walnut is softer than North American. Also nowhere does it say solid walnut.
