Gorilla black tape is .432 mm thick, vs .188 mm for the 3M. Tensile strength of the Gorilla tape is roughly 58 lb/in, versus 29 lb/in for the 3M tape. I'm picking up a roll of the 3M to have for non-critical light-duty tasks to save on using the more expensive Gorilla tape. Black Gorilla tape is my go-to otherwise--it's the strongest, longest-lasting, cleanest-releasing commonly available duct tape I've used.

Buy gaffer tape instead; it is better than duct tape and doesn't leave residue. It costs slightly more but is well worth it. I wish I'd learned about gaffer tape sooner.
