Please elaborate. I've been using two q-tips daily, one each ear, to clean my ears after a shower for 30+ years. I haven't spent a single night in a hospital and get a cold 0-2 times a year. I'm interested in what awaits and when.

I think that they mean if you put the tip too far into your ear you can easily damage your ear. Also, one could use a tip and shove wax into your ear rather than remove it.

Yeah only go tip (cotton) deep if that makes sense. Little less to be safe. Going too far will let you know real quick you done f'd up.

Didn't bother cleaning my ears with q tips for about 5 years (I think I did it sometimes, just not often). Both ears got clogged with wax and I visited the doctor to have the wax flushed out (very gross). Have used q tips almost daily for about 14 or 15 years since, and no issues. This is obviously anecdotal, but using q tips is essential for me. It's the easiest way to keep your ears clear of excess wax.

Side note, the quality of the qtips brand has declined. The stem isn't as strong and the cotton part isn't as big as it used to be.
I visited a marriott property, I think in Denver, that had the most amazing, "qtip" ever. Large strong cotton on a sturdy stick... way better than the original qtip brand ever was. I'm still chasing the dream of finding that one so I can buy it myself.
