what's up with all the off brand Chinese junk clogging up the front page lately? I get ownership of the site changed but is this a race to the bottom? Questionable deals, questionable brands, questionable websites, questionable quality? Ask no questions, promote to front page!

Is anyone using these tools lately? It's been a while since I had to open an iPhone or another device to repair it. Mostly because it's become so complex - everything is glued, everything requires heat, and everything requires you to replace the adhesive. Set looks nice for the price, not sure of the quality, but meh, I've got what I need for now.

These tools are low-end quality, hence the price. And, you may find that many sizes are not needed.

I've been wondering the same.. I've been annoyed by the "3rd party vendor rep" rule on Amazon products, but feel like that has been effective in reducing the utter junk. AliExpress, etc. needs a similar rule to cut down on this crap. I know that I can always go to the direct-from-china sellers for cheap goods. I'm here because I want high quality for a deal!

I got a similar set for my 10yo.. the bits are fine in a pinch but I should have paid $20 more and gotten an iFixIt set

I have a few of these sets, picked them all up for 99 cents or free after coupon. Decent enough in a pinch but low end overall

Mostly these are useful to have around. People doing phone repairs probably aren't using these kits, but they're helpful when you find those one or two odd tasks that you need them for. Most people probably have the basic Hammer/Screwdriver/Allen Keys sets for assembling furniture and random stuff around the house, never be taking apart their iphone.. but when you come across those 1 or 2 times you DO need one of these? it's super helpful to have!

I went to install my Nest Thermostat and turns out the old one in my apartment from many years ago needed a super small precision screwdriver to open, and this set came in handy. Or if you need to fix your glasses if they came loose, or use the 'picks' to pry things apart.
No matter what they tell you, this set isn't made to be your gateway into phone repairs and starting a business, or even doing regular repairs, it's real value are in those few times you need some random ass torx-security-bit to open something once or twice, or when you go to detach your ring camera 2 years from now and realize you used a security bit to attach it to something and have no idea where you put it.

For me, that's worth the 7 or 8 bucks

I noticed my iFixit set includes the JIS J00, J0 and J1 bits but it's the Pro Tech Toolkit which retails for $74.95. I did find their JIS bits for $$2.99 each if you needed to get one for a specific application and already have the screw driver base. They also have the J000 which is not included in the set I have. I'm not sure that helps you in any way but it's out there. It's a good set but not sure it's worth the price my company paid for it.
