In for two.

I found the user manual for this speaker. The way it is designed is that the sound bar itself is the front left/right and center speaker, and the subwoofer is wireless, which also provides power to the left and right surround speakers. The subwoofer should be located near the seating position, with the left and right surround speakers to the side/rear of the listeners. This is the layout configuration and makes a lot of sense since the subwoofer is only a 5.25-inch driver so its output will be very limited. The closer it can be to the listening position, the better quality its bass response would be to the listener.

It does have HDMI ARC. For $63, I'm going to give it a shot. There were a couple of negative reviews that said the satellite speakers don't get loud enough. Most of the reviews were incentivized but even those that weren't were generally pretty good.

Is ARC much inferior than eARC?

Surround speakers are supposed to be pointing towards the ears and not towards the front. They should seat on the same plane of the ears and not behind. Many people got it wrong and maybe that is why they could not hear the surround.

keep in mind that all streaming platforms use lossy compression, and can't take advantage of the higher throughput of eARC. It only matters for physical media that has lossless Dolby or DTS. But for those invested in physical media, I imagine they would also be investing in better sound systems

In for 1. I'm not expecting miracles for $60. But it's got to be better than the TV sound on the kids TV.

I wasn't familiar with the differences myself, so I looked into it, and HDMI eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is a pretty big step up, depending on the other hardware involved:
  • eARC can transmit uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and object-based formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, where ARC is limited to lower fidelity compressed formats like Dolby Digital and DTS
  • eARC uses HDMI 2.1 which is capable of higher bandwidth, where ARC operates on HDMI 1.4, limiting the audio transmission.
  • eARC supports better lip-sync correction and automatic device recognition
  • eARC is better at sending audio to external sound systems
For eARC, though, obviously both your TV and sound system must support HDMI 2.1 and eARC explicitly.

My ancient 5.1 Logitech system, which sounded fine, crapped out recently and I am looking for something modest to replace it with as this is for a smaller room. I don't need a powerful system, I do want something for $100 or less that claims at least 5.1 that will sound better than the speakers on my Sony X85K. If you could let me know if the sound is good to you when you get it setup, I'd appreciate it.

I'm sure by the time I get it set up, this deal will be gone. It's less than half price and delivered to your door. Just buy it, and if you don't like it return it in store.

on a sound system of this quality you would never be able to tell the difference. even the lipsync improvement wouldn't matter since the sound system doesn't have any listening position calibration.

For the price, I've gotta give it a try! Reviews seem decent, its got ARC, wireless sub, and Roku compatible which is what we use on all our tvs. Amost can't go wrong. It's arriving tomorrow with free shipping, I'll report back!

What's extra bizarre is the pictures show the surrounds mounted on the sides as though they're left and right channels and the soundbar is the center channel..

Do you still need an amp or receiver to drive the DTS/5.1? Or is this straight to a smart TV? sorry i'm super old.
