Chacos had a blow out sale on their Z slide model a few years ago. That shoe fell apart within 2 weeks and they offered 0 support. No clue about this model, but I lost trust in the company after that. YMMV, but that was my experience.
Hopefully that's just a one off. Though it seems to be the general trend of most products - quality declining over time. I have a pair of both z1 and z2 that have lasted me years and look like they'll last many more to come.

I wouldn't be surprised nor complain about lack of quality these days. If my "Made in the USA" New Balance are any indication, you need to spend $100+ for any clothing item to be made with care and quality in this globalized world of ours.
