$200 for bonded leather? That stuff will start peeling within a year or so.

1) within a year is an exaggeration, I've owned many throwaway chairs and worked at an office store for years. These chairs, while not meant to last for decades, are not THAT fragile
2) for $200 this is a pretty nice chair. Not everyone wants to or can afford to drop a grand, or spend weeks hunting in Facebook, for better chairs.
I personally have invested in nicer chairs and wouldn't buy these nowadays, but this kind of misinformation snobbery is not helpful.

Whoever owns this- do you recommend this one? I spend close to 10 hours a day at my desk.
Dear God, man. If you spend 10 hours of every day seated at a desk, I recommend you buy a riser and not a chair.

I have had my bonded leather chair from Staples for 6 years and it just started peeling. It is not a big and tall chair, but I am eying this one because it looks comfy.

Yep. I think 5 years is worth it. Or even 6 years in your case.

Just a heads up, Staples told us that a chair that is put together cannot be returned.

I can attest to my experience with Staples 5 Year Warranty was excellent on a similar chair that I had purchased from Staples in 2019. It too was bonded leather and only had issues where pushing the chair underneath the desk without putting the armrests up scuffed them, but didn't rip them.

Since Serta is coming up a lot in the comments, some of their chairs have springs in the seat, like individual mattress coils. I'm a big fan of those. I got this one about 3 years ago and the bonded leather isn't peeling yet: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Serta-.../254000164

I'm not especially big and tall but I figured it would last longer if I upsized. I think it's manufactured by a third party (True Innovations) and sold under the Serta name.

Isn't 9-10 hours a day at a desk just kind of the norm in today's dystopian America (and some other countries with poor worker protections)? Not saying it's good, but that's a pretty ordinary use case for something like this unfortunately.

Been looking for a deal on real full grain leather chair. These bonded leather chairs are just a headache to get rid of a year down the road. More trouble than it's worth.

I don't have this experience. I post a link on Facebook and craigslist for a free chair and it's gone in minutes

Stop crying. There is nothing dystopian about the United States. The only thing dystopian around here is your attitude.

I spend about the same amount of time at my desk working. I have a riser and I never use it. I just get up and move around every hour or so. Do some stretches and walk around for a few minutes and you'll be fine. I also walk on my lunch.

I ordered one of these. I'm 6'6 and weigh 270 pounds. I'll let everyone know after I build it tomorrow and sit in it for an hour at that point I know whether it's a keeper.

Bonded leather will tear up. Ask me how I know. If you can afford it or find a deal for real leather, that is the way to go.
This is spot on! Admittedly this chair seems a lot nicer than most SD chair deals, but was in a similar position and used to buy bonded leather cheapo chairs for home office use (3 work stations). Used them for 8-10 a day and it didn't matter what the brand was or which of us were using it, within a year or two the bonded leather would tear and start shedding flakes everywhere and just look gross.

So as long as you're buying it knowing the bonded leather veneer will ultimately crack and flake, it's fine.

After a few rounds of this, I went the other direction. While going with full grain was an option, it was way too expensive so I switched to synthetic instead of bonded leather and have been using the same chairs for over 7 years and they still look really good and are comfortable.

As an example, I'm currently sitting on a Staples Bressertrade Luxura Managers Chair Tan from an old slick deal since that Luxura fabric has been great for us. I also like how the bottom of this particular chair has floating straps that support you instead of a board since I find the foam padding on the bottom of a lot of the cheaper chairs gets compressed and less comfortable over time . (For ref, I'm 5' 11 175 lbs) Not saying this will be everyone's experience, but it's certainly mine over the last 20 years and hopefully helps people.
