I bought one of these, and I like it. Of course the speed is dependent on your hardware. If your pulling off a spinning hard drive or using the 5gbps USB port it won't operate at full speed. Using a USB A to USB C adapter and a USB 4 port writing to a gen 4 nvme I think I was getting around 700MBps. Around 350MBps on the 5Gbps ports.

The USB A on the T31 is non retractable. I put the cap away because I don't intend to keep up with it. There is a white activity light that stays on. It's a little bulky. I'm happy with it.

2 of these and a mini pc could literally replace my huge desktop. I rarely game anymore an just use my pc as a Plex server now and to stream video.

Do these USB sticks with DRAM have batteries or super-capacitors inside? They're presumably capable of accepting writes faster than they could be recorded to SSD, so power loss (pulling the stick when "safely" unmounted but before the DRAM is flushed) could potentially result in data loss/corruption?

IIRC this one is basically an m2 drive inside of a USB stick. I don't think it has write cache though; the DRAM is for caching the layout info of flash drive.

I think it was Tom's Hardware that reviewed this drive, and it was their favorite by far for performance reasons.

(edited) Warning: not for playing ps5 games:
afaik while these are compatible with ps5, it's not going to let you play installed ps5 games on it. Ps5 games have to run off the on board drive or an internally installed pcie4.0+ nvme drive. Usb drives are for other files, playing ps4 games, and storing ps5 games (but need to transfer ps5 games before can play).

Unless you needed the portability, you'd be better off with an internal nvme in your mini-pc. It would use the dedicated lanes for the NVME slots and not take away bandwidth from your USB ports, especially if you plan to use USB to HDMI/DisplayPort adapters.

I have the 1tb version and really like it. It's super fast compared to a regular usb flash drive. I think I read some where that it had dram so it's supposed to help with the speed. It's a bit bulky but it has a usb a built in and came with a cap. I use a usb a to c adapter cable that works fine. Every once in a while the drive will randomly disconnect and reconnect. I leave my pc on and use sleep function all the time. A reboot stops the random disconnects for a long time.

not correct. you can install PS5 games to external drives, but you can't play them off the drive. I have a 4TB external HDD connected to my PS5 and it's full of PS4 and PS5 games. I can play the PS4 games off the drive, but if I want to play a PS5 game I have to move it to internal storage in order to play it. TLDR; you can store PS5 games on external SSD/HDD but you can only play them off internal ssd storage

You are supposed to eject the drive in Windows (using the tray icon first) before you eject.

Like others, I've had the 1TB version, and have been really impressed with the speed. It is bulky - as others have noted, if you have 2 USB-A slots close to each other, you may lose an A port.

That just flushes the DRAM on the host, though, not the DRAM on the SSD.

I think @shoka_con provided a good explanation -- if the disk DRAM is not a write cache, the risk is low.

This isn't an nvme Device, just a usb stick. For nvme device look for like g40 sandisk or something.

I shucked my 1TB and is indeed a 2242 nvme inside. I assume the 2TB is the same.
