I hope they do some sort of discount on Lifetime. I should've bought it when it was $120, but I thought Jellyfin would be fine. I ended up coming back to Plex since it's so much easier to use and UI is better.

WTF Plex you greedy bastards. Just release the Lifetime Pass deal already and take my $150.
Exactly I'm like fine I messed up just put up the lifetime at $150 so I can take my loss
Hold the line! Hopefully the fact that they extended their year deal BS means sales were low and they come to their senses about a lifetime deal.
Yes, you can stream free remotely with JellyFin but it requires some more work.
With plex, you just open port 32400 on your router and plex handles the rest (certificate, ssl, etc).
It "works" but I don't believe it is secure to just open port 8096 for JellyFin and let it rip. At a minimum you want to get a free domain name (like from duckdns.org) and set up a reverse proxy. I use Caddy. You actually open ports 80 and 443 on your router and Caddy forwards to 8096.
There's also reverse vpn(?) like tailscale but that requires a client app on each device and connecting to a vpn. Reverse proxy is seamless and you don't need to connect to vpn.

I don't know what they are thinking. They can have half the sign ups at twice the cost or double signups half the price. I always thought subscriptions were what companies are looking for.

Does Jellyfin allow that for no cost?
