Go to Apple store buy unlocked for $799 and pay $25-30/month for unlimited with most MVNO'S.

This is of course assuming ATT maintains their $800 payoff offer… what am I missing here?
Edit: convoluted
Option 1: 18 months of $25 MVNO for $450 plus $830 payment for iPhone 17 = $1280 total with $830 down payment.
Option 2: this, 6 months of $65 VZW for $390 minus $200 credit plus 12 months of $65 ATT for $780 = $970 total with no down payment outside of taxes and activation fees. Assuming ATT pays off the 17 w/transfer.

if you are only paying $40 a month on some low tier though, 1440. I mean if you consider this phone to be worth $500 to 700 actual dollars, it'll be worth it maybe for some
After locking in the credit, switch to ATT and take advantage of their up to $800 buyout. They require 4 months of history of payments on the phone to establish worthiness. That'll pay off the remaining balance on the 17 but if you leave them before 12 months or downgrade to an unsupported plan (I believe SL is the minimum supported) they hit you with a chargeback.
But again, it's contingent on ATT agreeing to do the buyout. If they don't, you can still take advantage of the $200 credit and just pay off the phone from Verizon.
And, as I type this, I'm looking at Metro's $300 instant savings offer, which is a great deal in its own right. $300 off, 6 mo of the $50/mo plan required but then the phone is unlocked. imo that deal or the Boost Mobile deals are the ones to get.
are you accounting for the fact that you get the phone paid off with credits and if you leave Verizon after 6 months you lose all those credits? and possibly as long as the phone is not paid off because the credits are not through paying it off, it might not be unlocked?
According to the T&C, you get the $200 e-gc after about 8 weeks, but if you leave before 6 months then vzw will charge it back. Best to verify with them though.
