These are good. The case is solid and the speeds are fast. The only downside side is they are not toolless.

These are good. The case is solid and the speeds are fast. The only downside side is they are not toolless.

It's not fast, and it's awkward to operate, but it works. The best way to use this would be to keep a cheap SSD in there forever. I also have the Fideco from the previous SD, and I prefer the other one's toolless design that facilitates swapping the SSD.

Do yourself a favor and get https://a.co/d/92HqhyM the Sabrent one. No screws to open. No screws to hold the drive in. It's beautifully elegant and yeah it costs more but I've lost too many tiny screws in my lifetime.

I got one when it was last listed. There's a rubber stopper to keep the drive secure, and I never use the external screen to lock the heatsink down. I just put a piece of tape on it for quick swaps.

Or THIS [amazon.com] tool-less one for half the price if just needing NVMe.

Seems main advantage of that Sabrent is that one will do SATA protocol in addition to NVMe.

Not worthy. I bought them when they were on sale last time. Its difficult to change SSD because of the rubber screw. Whenever, I change the SSD it does not work every time. Additionally, I tried to attach it to my pixel phone and it did not work. So, I bought the wavelink brand SSD enclosure and it works flawless.

I got this last year, have yet to use it.. I didn't realize how many different sizes of M.2 NVMe are out there. I have a cheap stick I wanted to try out in it sometime.

I have one. For Linux you might need to flash the latest RTL9210B firmware but after that its solid. That said, I also have the chunky Fideco enclosure with the same chipset and its worth the extra $5 - better heat dissapation, no tools, pretty recent firmware out the box etc.

I have like 6 or 7 of these, and they all work fine. They have always come with a RTL9210B chipset since I started ordering them in 2023, but who knows if that could change. Whatever the case, updated firmware is easily available so just flash the latest (v1.34.39) when you get it.

I kind of like these because the whole circuit board just pops out. So it's easy to swap drives, and they will probably never overheat (though some claim it's better to have an actual heat sink attached as air is a thermal insulator).

Have an extra SSD I want to use to keep weekly clone backups of my laptop so this should do the trick. Now to find freeware for the backups...

These are for permanent installs, so the complaints about swapping are weird, its not for that, you'll ruin the thermal pad doing that regardless of the design.

Works ok, esp if you update the firmware, many previous threads on that.

Best cooling for the price, but some drives need more, can ziptie a regular heatsink if you have one laying around. Only the lid is metal, but that's still better than some in this price range.

FreeFileSync: works on Windows/Mac/Linux. Only updates what has been changed.

You could also make a zip/7z/gzip/rar/tarball archive and copy it over as one large file.
